Seeing this new camera from Shen-Hao, I was hit hard with GAS, the thought of lightweight a 5x7 with a 4x5 reduction back couldn`t be ignored. So I put out an ad for my 4x5 Shen, and a nice 70-200 VR Nikkor I use way too little. In less than 12 hours both were sold, and I`ll be placing an order for the new Shen-Hao in a few days. I also won 7 5x7 holdes on eBay for $42 while I slept
Anyone have an idea of the lensboard size of the new 5x7 from the pictures?

Hi Amund,

7 x 5x7 holders for $42?

Great deal... congratulations!

Cheers

I am no authority on todays cameras, but this one looks fantastic! Will be waiting for more information after it arrives.

Charlie...................................

Looks like a Sinar-size bord to me too.

Congratulations anyway!

Unless things have changed it will come with an adaptor to take Linhoff boards. Might even come with one board. So if you're lenses are already mounted on Linhoff boards you're fine.

Cool, I`ll have to check if it comes with the adaptor.

$42.50 for the seven 5x7 holders sure is a great deal, IF they`re light tight, we`ll see.
Not being familiar with the size, could some one take a look at them here , just in case the seller has measured the outside dimensions of a standard 4x5 holder, wich is roughly 5x7...

Looks like 5x7" to me. Of course, they also look like 13x18cm and "half-plate", the holders look exactly the same on the outside...

YOU'RE the one who sniped them from me!!!! :D Yes, they are 5x7. I was bidding on them too to try and get a few more for my Argentina trip.

Ouch, well I just have to trust the seller

:D I tried sniping for the first time, I guess it works!
Looking at completed auctions, I have the feeling 5x7 holders are relatively cheap these days...

Are you looking at the FCL57 or HZX57? The FCL looks to me like it has a standard Linhof sized board. The HCX seems to have an adapter, perhaps it comes with. Their 8X10s do apparently come with the adapter. (At least from Badger Graphic.)

It`s the FCL57-A, and according to the other guys here it uses Sinar-size lensboards, wich seems likely as the lensboard is square.
I have sent an email to SH, asking about the adapter.

Amund, the adapter allows use of technika boards. Well worth the extra price. Also it is worth getting extra lensboards from Shen-hao at only/$20.00 each unless you are a stickler for the real thing and want to pay much more. The 5x7 Shen-hao will not disapoint you. I tool mine to Maine recently and it performed quite well. Good Luck!

David

Be wary of used holders! E-bay is always an adventure and now I use new ones. Light leaks are no fun.

David

Paul , you were right, the FCL does use Linhof-size boards, part of keeping the front standard lightweight I guess...

The 7 holders came to day, and 5 of them are loaded with Plus-X of unknown vintage
