Can't recall any of my miserable threads where he did NOT commend and did NOT provide sensible information. So it's about time! Congratulations!

Sometimes I feel like Matt King is at European time zone, because he is online during daytime here in Finland. For example now.

But what goes to the moderator title of Matt, I'm sorry behalf of you Matt and I'm sure you can still revert your status afterwards. It must have been some kind of emotional moment or something when you agreed to be moderator here. I know, we all make mistakes.

Thanks everyone.
For clarity, there is something about that "Staff on Duty" flag that doesn't always respond when I leave Photrio. I don't know whether it is my browser setup or what. In any event, I wasn't here at 3:07 a.m. my time, even if it appeared that I might be.
But you can't be sure - if I can't sleep I've been known to check in in the middle of the night some times ....

Matt King is an excellent choice but I also echo AgX in his view that there's not and bever been a European moderator and I think it's high time we had one.

Ian

We did have Ole Tjugen as a moderator for quite a long time, though he's been inactive for the past few years. There have been European moderators of the European Regional Forums. I'm all for bringing on moderators from other parts of the world as Sean sees fit.

We do need a new European Moderator. we alsoneed to know who are the Council member and if they are still relevant and waht did they do.

The Resources section needs major re-vamping, we need the Portfolio section back as well. The site is losing longterm members the bedrock of the site.

No disagreement there. The Council was established mainly to provide input beyond the moderation team in connection with major actions like the restructuring of the site or banning people who may have at one time been positive contributors but had become problem members--difficult decisions because they involved people whose contribution was truly valued, but for whatever reason, had gotten into feuds with other valued contributors or were otherwise having a negative impact on the forum. Fortunately, it's been some years since we've had to make those kinds of decisions, so the Council hasn't been as active, and I think that if we needed it again, we'd have to figure out which Council members are still around, and would likely expand the group to account for members who have drifted away, died, given up photography, etc.

Sean is more involved than I am with the Resources section and the fate of the Portfolio section, so I'll leave those questions to him.

Thank you for the explanation of the Council, something up to now enigmatic to me.

We are in major need of a re-vamp. The fastest way to do this is to rip the band-aid off by upgrading the core system. And then we mop up and repair what did not make it through. Off the top of my head, what would make it through a 1.5x to 2.x upgrade without too much fuss:

-All forum accounts and all forum thread/post data/styling could be ok
-We would need to get the preferences switcher re-coded
-Gallery should be ok
-Resource Manager would be ok

what would break:
-Social groups would be down for a bit
-Blogs would break
-A few addons and plugins would break but there are similar in 2.x that we can use

Benefits are that 2.x offers a LOT of what people have wanted for a while now. I know my way around 2.x and it's very nice, a better system in too many ways to list. So I might try to get us an update as soon as possible then spend a couple months refining it.

Well Sean, you know I'd play my part on the Resources side, but two spells as main carer this year and 7 years ago with my mother took all my time. Now I have more freedom,

I have concerns but they might be better discussed outside the Forum, WhatsApp. or similar :D where dialogue is faster . . . . .

Well all I can say, Ian, is that given your circumstances you did pretty damn well to give us as much of your time as you did. Much appreciated by me

Thanks Ian, good to know and I will gladly accept your help. I'm taking a week off the day job, possibly late July because I really need to get 2.0 running. It might be a bit of ripping the band-aid off for a couple weeks. The rough plan would be to prep enough for a core upgrade, then spend at least 5-days clean up, then a couple months tweaking and re-building some of the plugins, etc. It has to be done soon, as the current software is no longer supported.
