Wow, Ratty, I'm so proud of you, doing your first B&W. Laostyle17 and I just did our first C41 this weekend. I completely fucked up while he was putting BabyPanda down for her nap and the top came off the tank and ruined the first roll and part of the 2nd. Anyway, we got thru the first C-41 with 2-1/2 out of 4 rolls. Damn, this is fun.

Too early for me to dream of doing C41! Congrats on that major accomplishment!

Just because we did C-41 once he's expecting me to keep doing it. Man, I don't know if I can. It is WAY more complicated than B&W. I'm going to try, though. They're getting married in Vegas next week so I have to push my own envelope.

Hey friend. If all you have to do to do color is pour a little chemistry in a tank, be glad of it. Be glad you didn't have to do it on a printing press for the last 35 years.

Wow, Tom, putting it in perspective. This is great.

RattyMouse,

Congratulations on a big step forward.

Congratulations. I'm glad you were able to get into developing at home. It is a lot of fun, and very satisfying.

Well done RattyMouse. My curiosity is getting the better of me - how/why did you wait so long ? You had made over 1000 posts for over two years before taking the dive !

I dare answer before him: I presume he must have got his films developed by a photo retailer...

Those negatives look fine to me. Maybe slightly underexposed. Those will print just fine. I never worried about the purple cast. It doesn't seem to affect the print, at least as far as I can tell. Like I said before, the hardest part of the whole process (by far) is getting the damn film on the reel.

Medium format film scans relatively well even on a CHEAP scanner. For $200 you can get a scanner that will let you analyze the negatives.

Wonderful news that the leaning curve is being kind. Your ears and fingers will soon tune to the reel loading process.

Congratulations! Enjoy!

It's great when a first attempt at something goes so well... but that is also how you get hooked on something

All the OP needs is a micro scale, formula, and lots of chemicals...

D96, D23, POTA,...

Yep. Second time took 5 mins or less. MUCH easier.

Thanks everyone! This is a blast.

It's worse than that. I have been shooting film since the 1980's. I never had the urge to do the developing. Until now. After this weekend i am KICKING myself for not doing this sooner!

So when are you going to start developing C-41? I did it this weekend for the first time and it was a gas!

Probably not for a loooong time. C41 processing is so cheap where I am it really makes no sense for me to do it on my own.
