In that case, while we're at it, ...astia...

Hypothetical question - if they were going to bring back either one or the other and you could choose, which would it be?

I'd pick Astia in a heartbeat, at least until Film Ferrania is up and running.

That's really hard to answer. I use FP-100C for pinhole photography and playing around; it's almost a separate hobby. But I'd use a lot more color film if astia was available, so I agree.

Hard for me too. Transparency film for me is like riding a classic high quality bicycle for transportation. Peel apart film is like also having some weird steam powered bike in the garage that gives me great pleasure to ride for fun.

An article on Japanese Camera Hunter speculates based on previous announcements that this has not been since 2012 and that they are finally down to the last shipments thus the renewed announcement. If this is true then the machinery is all likely dismantled and no petition is going to help. We all should have been "petitioning" with our wallets more earlier...

I keep reading this, and I've read the speculation over and over, and I have yet to see ANY reason to believe that is the case. It's pure, rampant, unjustified speculation that boils down to this: someone was told back then to expect it to be discontinued because it didn't sell well. Then it started selling well so it wasn't discontinued. Now it has been, and somehow, someone makes the utterly bizarre (to me) leap to the idea that this necessarily means the machinery was dismantled back in 2012 and they've just been selling existing stock. It COULD be, but I see absolutely no reason to believe this is necessarily the case just from the facts presented.

A seemingly (again, to me) much more likely scenario - Fuji was considering discontinuing it because it didn't sell well, but then sales picked up and they continued making it, but now sales have slowed again and it was flagged for discontinuance. The machinery could very well have been churning out more of it right up until last week, or even continuing today for all we know with plans to stop this spring. In that case they could very easily change their minds and not discontinue it, if sales pick up.

If I were cynical, I'd say rumors of discontinuation are a good way of increasing prices.

+1

It's fully in stock at Yodobashi, with prices high, although they may have always been that high.

I also happened to pass by the Fujifilm museum and gallery (and cosmetic corner) on my way to the Michael Kenna exhibition, so I went in to take a look. The instax cameras were all proudly displayed on the counters right at the front, but all other cameras (and film) were behind glass cases. They had some interesting cameras to look at though, but Fuji and other brands.
