My Fuji Work Record showed up today. Meant to be one of those tough workplace kameras that were a thing in Japan. Has a 28mm 3.5 lens and yuuuge VF. AF.
What is interesting is that it looks super tough, but in hand is remarkably light weight.
It is meant to be weather resistant and looking at the rubber sealed buttons, I guess it could be. My doubts lie around the way the camera back seals up. It has a shallow film seal channel that on one side has a rubber lip. But just doesn't seem to close up in a super tight fashion. It unusually has a manual door catch. Push down to open; to close hold the camera back shut and push the catch up.
It just seems like a bump in the exact wrong spot could cause it to pop open. In comparison, a Nikon ActionTouch has a safety catch and seals up like a bank vault. Then again the Nikon is rated to go underwater to about 10 feet.
The Fuji winds all the film out, then brings it back in as you shoot. Just like an Xpan! Really simple, intuitive controls, with a bunch of buttons hidden behind a side panel. This includes the most important one - the ability to manually control the flash. Unfortunately the default setting is autoflash, and if you change that then turn the kamera off, it goes back to the default when you turn it back on. Butt.. the kamera does not seem to have an auto-off. I timed it being on for 15 minutes before I threw in the towel. So you can just leave it on and it doesn't seem to use any real battery power until you push the shutter button down half way.
Film is DX coded, with no way of me knowing the specs as I could not find any. I assume that non DX film is set to ISO 100.
Film is loaded, will see how this lump works.

I don't recall seeing these... Fuji glass is usually top notch so I'm guessing it will perform well. Konica made a similar rig that a relative had at a gathering many years back. He said it was liberating to own a good image grabber that he could treat a bit carelessly and know it would work.

Konica made a similar camera, made for the construction trades and marketed here in the US as the Off Road, lens is 28mm 3.5.

Yeah i like that Konica one but this Fuji is much cheaper and seems to be very similar. As Craig mentioned Fujis usually have great lenses.

My newest PS is the Konica UPZ wide, same body as the Off Road, but not quite as rugged with a 28 to 56mm, focus is fast, meter is accurate and the lens is very sharp, I had always Pentax IQ Zoom was good, pending additional enlargements I give the edge to Konica. Not that would pass on a Fuji Work if I could find one.

What sort of film? Is this you scanning? Lens looks very sharp. Thanks for sharing, I am intrigued.

Really appealing design.

I recommend it - super sharp lens, light weight, rain proof, easy to use, and you can turn the flash on/off at will.

What they'll do is just reshoot it... been ripped off like that by a production house for a major show. Re-shoot an image with slight differences - bam! Their idea!

I have it on my list, past few months only Work Records I've seen on Ebay are from Japan, looking for USA seller, but want one, edge sharpness beats my Konica Off Road.

Granted, my main Fuji is as far from this work record as you can get (GX680), but I'm continually pleased by Fuji lens sharpness and quality.

The GX680 lenses are great. The 50mm is a work of art. The 90 on my Texas Leica is great. Even your little point and shoot seems to remarkably good for such a modest thing. I don't mean to be a fuji fanboy, but between these and your 220 experiments with that 690iii of yours, you're showing the capabilities so well it's almost an advertisement for Fuji glass. Albeit somewhat obsolete glass.
