Fuji SP3000 Help

Hello! Long time lurker here.

I bought a frontier a few months ago and have been struggling to get it working. Got it on ebay from China, had to get a 220V converter, etc.

I am stuck with getting the server and the scanner to communicate (and with retrieving the pictures haha). The two computers connected with ethernet through a switcher. They both have a workgroup of the same name (not sure what else to check there).

When I turn on the scanner (after the server is on), I get a error message "This device is started up in the stand-alone mode. To connect to the server, select 'Start connection to the imaging control' in the 'setup and maintenance' screen" (not an option listed). After I scan the pictures and submit an order, the order makes it to the server, but I get a "media not recognized" error.

As I understand, you can either run this thing in standalone mode, or networked. There appear to be several software options and I suspect they differ in the configuration options they allow. My first impulse would be to try and run it standalone before/instead of complicating matters with a network.

This suggests that the Frontier application on the scanning machine may not have the correct settings to connect with the server. I see you can successfully ping both machines from either direction, so your network as such works. However, at the application layer, things may not be properly configured. For instance, it may (will) be necessary to set the server's IP address on the scanning machine so it starts connecting with the proper address. Alternatively, if you use host name resolution, keep in mind that on a network with just two Windows machines hostname resolution may fail due to an NDS problem (main, lack of any). It may work to hardcode the server's hostname & IP address in the scanner's 'hosts' file.

What version of Windows are both pc running? (I couldn't see on the video)
What version of Fuji software are you running with the scanner? (MS01?)
What is your aim to having the the unit networked rather than stand along?
Are you outputting to a device/printer or do you just want digitised images to work on in Photoshop (for example)?

Sorry for all the questions, but I ran Frontiers professionally for many years. I am not a computer expert but if I can help, I gladly will.

Windows versions:
- XP Professional on the server
- 2000 Professional on the scanner

Not sure where to find the software version like MS01?, I see a "DIC2 Ver. : 3.0-0E-490" and Scanner with the same version number.

I would rather it be standalone honestly. The seller said it wouldn't work standalone, and when I tried it without the server, it doesn't even scan anything, get errors like "A service menu does not exist" and "check your network connection". If swapping over to a different software version would make it work standalone that would be great.

No printer, just want to edit them like you said.

Ah, poop.
I wonder if it could be made to work if you run the server in a virtual box on the client machine. Getting both 'machines' to communicate with each other over the network might be a challenge, though.

Still, for the moment, I'd proceed with the two physical machines and get that to work first.

Got the two machines working!! That forum recommending using 7777 as the password gave the option to enable connecting to the server. Then, after fiddling with the computer not recognizing my USB drive, I got some pictures off!

I still want to have it work standalone (and probably with a different version of the software).

The software running on my computers doesn't look like that much. I did a quick look around, maybe its FE software/I see the term EZMain around? Looks like this


It doesn't have many options (like the shadow hardness, stuff like that too), no optional software listed either. Changing to MS01 + MS11 with the various optional stuff would be great (have to find the software, back up whats there, etc.)

Only thing aside from the software is this white line on the top of all my scans. I'm cleaning the carrier now (some of the rollers are rusty, I'm sure sensors are dirty). Hopefully that takes care of it. Tried running some calibration tests but everything said fine.

That looks OK. could the line at the top be an alignment problem where the scanner is scanning partly outside the film frame?

I agree with @koraks that the line could be an alignment problem. Just check that the negative carrier is fully in position.
What carrier are you using? (auto - manual)
Regarding dust, always clean the carrier and the light diffuser, just the part facing the negative carrier. Then do a recalibration, this is important. If you don't the dust marks/lines will still appear on the scans on screen.

Hi Justin! I'm encountering the same issues with my recently purchased SP 3000 and I'm close to going insane. How did you end up solving your problems?
