The PA45 4x5 pack holder is very nice.

Here is a 4x5 fp100c shot, and then the same shot with the emulsion lifted off onto some other paper.

Jason, look for a Polaroid 550 holder. Its the one for 4x5 pack film. Back before the Dreaded Announcement, they were going for a about $50. Lord knows what they are now. Maybe $100, maybe zip squat zilch.

You can also use a Polaroid 500 or 550 holder instead of the PA-45. Two weeks ago they were selling on ebay for < $5. Now, a lot more ;-)

Because most of us used the type 545 holder, which won't accept pack film. All of a sudden now they are the only holders with a future beyond 1 year, unless Fuji comes out with something. Plus, I don't think there were near as many. Now I'm gonna need one of those or the Fuji.

Can't you shoot readyloads or quickloads with a 545? That should keep the value up.

IDK, I've never shot them. I thought you needed a "ready load holder"

Ah, just read on Robertwhite, they tested and it works with RLs and QLs, but the 545 has no pressure plate so apparently it isn't quite optimal. Doable but not optimal. Apparently the clipping mechanism does work.

If you need a used PA-45 with your Fuji instant film from Japan, get in touch. They are plenty and inexpensive.

35mm and MF Polaroid -> Fuji replacements?

Just to clarify for myself. The Fuji website does not mention compatabilty from what I have seen. The posts here on APUG seem to indicate that there should be compatability from the Polaroid 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 to the Fuji 3.5 x 4.25 format FP-100B. The image size is different, but are the dimensions of the pack the same?

Just need to confirm that I don't need to buy up discontinued 664 and that I can just use the Fujifilm FP-100b. Is this correct?

Yes, I've used both the Polaroid 6xx films and Fuji FP-100C (medium format packfilm) in my Bronica Polaroid back and the NPC back I used to have for my Canon New F-1.

I apologize for resurrecting an old thread.
Since the Fuji FP-100c is much cheaper than the FP-100c45 and just slightly smaller, can it be used on a 4x5 camera for proofing? If yes, would it need the Fuji PA-45 holder or some other one?
If anyone has ever tried, I'd love to see some results and hear your opinions.

Worth knowing - I've not tried RLs/QLs because I've been concerned about film flatness in the Polaroid holder owing to the lack of pressure plate. (Actually, I'm not sure I 'get' RL/QL anyway to be honest, it seems rather expensive compared to just regular film holders, but at least it's worth knowing I can try if I want to!)



Frances - the PA-45 holder will take the FP100C45 packs (and works a treat) but not the smaller 'medium format' FP100C packs.

I believe there are reducing backs which will fit a 4x5 camera but take the smaller instant film packs, but I'm afraid I don't know a model name/manufacturer off the top of my head - someone else may be able to help!

The Polaroid 405 film back fits a 4x5 camera and takes the smaller instant film packs. If you find an in-box unit on ebay they may come with a mask for your ground glass to show the smaller image area.

Great News! Praus Productions has the FP100B B&W material and the price is $8.63 plus calculated shipping and appropriate sales tax for NYS residents. I bought a case directly from FUJI a couple of months ago.

I would have thought Fuji would be the obvious people to make a 600 film replacement.

Do they make film that can be used by the business who still use instant film for passport photos?

Fuji FP-100C is the passport photo film. Color. Much more accurate color than Polaroid 669. Creating a 600 film replacement is a bit more difficult due to the integrated film pack battery and that Fuji integral materials expose from the rear and have coatings laid down in reverse using the Kodak patents.

So how is it Fuji are able to make instant film but Kodak are not allowed? I would have thought Polaroid would be prepared to licence out their patents very cheaply.

Polaroid sued Kodak several decades ago and won. That is why Kodak had to cease their version of Instant photography.

I was looking for a fuji pa-45 and a polaroid 550 on an auction site and was amaized at the prices thay are going for ($200.00 and more) well i guess it's a matter of supply and demand.

Hi everybody,

resurrection again from this interesting thread.
I just bought a PA 45 and would like to have some advices from usual users on the use of the following films:

FP 100 C45
FP 500 B45

additionally, what i still do not get is if we have to shoot the full pack once in the holder or if there is a way to switch from one emulsion to the other w/o encountering troubles, like losing a film each time?

They are excellent, Yann. And no, there is no way to switch, unless you have a changing bag and can leave one opened pack in there.... I do that sometimes, but you pretty much lose one exposure regardless.

Also try fp3000b, it is amazing.
