I'm retired so I'm pretty much screwed.

When I retired, I told my boss, one of the few I did not respect, that I could not figure out how he got out of bed in the morning without someone telling him how to do it. So I would not ask him of all people for anything even the weather.

Tonight, my wife and I went out for our anniversary at a steak place. For what we paid, we should have gotten the whole cow.
If they are serving cow at the steak place you are going to, I would hope that the price would be good!

That's hilarious!
I always wondered what impoverished people think when they see morons, who have either inherited, or by some quirk of fate become modestly rich.

I can't imagine working retail, I wouldn't last a month.

Well, I was able to get milk or cream for my coffee. In any case, what do I know about beef. I'm from The Bronx.

"photographic related products" includes digital as well as film. Sales of digital cameras have collapsed in recent years. The fact that Instax sells well and traditional film sales are increasing will still be dwarfed by their revenue from digital photography....at least until recently.

Ultimately everyone across several industries is experiencing supply chain issues, shipping issues, raw material price rises....due to the plague. Fuji is certainly no exception.

Although I bought a pack of Provia and Velvia two weeks ago, I just bought a box of both. Together with a box of Gold 200-120.

There is a public expectation of inflation right now, and some companies are relying on that to raise prices higher than what would be necessary to maintain margins. It's interesting to see what they are telling their investors in their quarterly filings. I don't know if this is the case with Fuji though.

Gas/petrol prices are at record levels right now. And simultaneously oil companies are posting record profits.
"Inflation"...

It is a world wide problem so do not go blaming Kodak again.

I just bought six rolls of 35mm B&W; cost me almost $80.00. That's getting rather expensive.

I usually grieve the loss of a peeve for a suitable amount of time, recover, and then go looking for another peeve to fill the void.

Hunting down pet peeves is a personal joy for many people.

I am annoyed that they're canceling Velvia 50.

Where does it say they are cancelling Velvia 50? Im aware they cancelled that in 4x5 sheets, but that is old news now. I hope 120 and 35mm also haven't been cancelled. Its the only film from Fuji I still insist on buying when I shoot slides. Be stupid to cancel this film.

Opportunities like this bloom in retirement.

There is no need to wait for retirement. Young'uns are welcome. Bring your own peeves and keep them fed.

You are correct. Velvia 50 in 120 and 135 formats is not being cancelled/discontinued in any location worldwide. I guess Alan must have been referring to the, by-now-old, news that it is being discontinued in sheet formats.

That said, Velvia 50 in any format is difficult to find these days - most retailers seem to be sold out. This has been a pretty persistent phenomenon since approximately mid-2020. Right now, even the big Japanese domestic retailers, Yodobashi and BIC, who I've never seen online as sold-out of 120 Velvia 50 before, currently show out-of-stock. Those two retailers are also showing a huge price jump - current price they have posted for a 5-pack box of 120 Velvia 50 is 9,470 yen and just last week they were a little under 6,000 yen! I guess this is the huge Fuji price jump we have been hearing about, coming our way.

Curious how much more expensive Fuji 200 (that they are not making and not shipping across the ocean) will get.

And why?

The price of film is the least of my financial worries, the price of electricity in Britain with effect from the first of April this year has risen by more than 50%, , and is due to rise again in October, I'm more worried about paying the increased energy bills next winter, film is't a necessity.

From one west coast retailer two days ago: Fuji Velvia 50 will increase in price by 60%

Makes Ilford and Kodak price hikes far easier to absorb, eh wot?

Film is a necessity when it pays for your electricity!

Maybe film is now either (a) a drug of addiction or (b) is largely the pursuit of those who are rich enough not to have to worry about price increases.

Nobody who goes into a Rolls-Royce dealership to buy one ever asks about how many miles they do to the gallon or if they do, it is made plain to them that they shouldn't be there
