Hello and thanks in advance...

I've done a search on the forum in regard to my question but I haven't been able to find an answer.

I recently acquired a used GW690III. The issue I'm having is that it does not appear that the aperture is stopping down. The shutter fires fine but I do not see a difference in the aperture opening between f3.5 to f32. In other words the aperture appears to be stuck open @f3.5...

I've tried opening the film door, placing the shutter in T and stopping the aperture down to f32, winding the advance a couple times and firing (opening) the shutter - the shutter opens but there is no difference in it's opening between aperture stops: all settings appear as large as f3.5?

Now I am a little familiar with leaf shutters - I've even managed to get an old Mamiya RB67 50mm lens back to working shape and I understand that leaf shutters could be a little different in the Fuji but my assumption is that I should be seeing a difference in the opening between f3.5 and f32 with this Fuji similar to the functionality of the Mamiya lenses (I can "see" the difference in aperture when cocking and firing one of my Mamiya lenses in my hand).

On the other hand, maybe there is a slight difference in the Fuji design and the leaves themselves act as the aperture somehow?

Can anyone here confirm my suspicion that something is wrong or can someone that owns a working GW690 re-enact my test? Also, does anyone here have experience repairing such an issue?

As mentioned before I searched other threads but didn't see anything in re: to the aperture itself.

Thanks again - any help or info would be greatly appreciated!

Joe

Open the back. Close the aperture down to f32. From the back you should be able to see the iris closed down. Open up the aperture. You should see the iris open up. If yours is staying still, you do have a problem and it needs to go to a repairer...

Thanks Regular Rod,

That's what I've done... I'm not seeing the opening change size. I'm wondering however, how tricky the shutters/apertures are on these cameras to work on. Does anyone know if the aperture can be accessed via the front element?
