I borrowed a Fuji GSW690 III with the 65mm lens to see if this is something I would like. Who knew that 2.25 x 3.5 inches would look so big.

I shot a roll of FP4+ without a filter on the lens and it is right on and contrasty. (looks great done in xtol).

So, I guess I will be looking for one of these now.

I have one and it is quite worth the search!! :D I also have the GW670 II... those Fuji lenses are very nice.
Good luck with your quest.

developing my first set of negs from a GW670iii today.

I've got the 6x9 with the 90mm lens, and its a great camera. The Fuji lenses are great, they give beautiful negs.

Yes, I have one. It is a wonderful camera with a terrific lens! Try some Fuji ACROS developed in Pyrocat - or some Fuji Velvia 100.

hey peter,
what portraits on your site are from this camera? I am wondering if the 65mm is too wide for people pictures.

Hi David,

I don't have any portraits with that camera on my site. Hm. I'll have to do some looking to see if I have any around. I mainly use the Fuji GSW690III as a landscape and vacation camera. It would be fine for environmental portraiture, but I certainly wouldn't use it for head and shoulder's portraits.

I get it now.

I am now on a search for the rarely seen GSW680III.

Yes they did make one but apparently it never left Japan.

I once had a line on a 6x8, but I had just bought a 6x7 (90mm) the week before, and so I couldn't swing it. 6x8 would be a lovely size.

GSW680III severeal listed at Keh.com maybe this will get you there directly, if not do it the hard way:

EdIT: that the GX 680 so may not be the same.

yeah...I am looking for the range finder that is identical to the 6x7 and 6x9.

Apparently Fuji made one camera body and then used three different film gates, 6x7 6x8 and 6x9.

RIGHT! It's not the same. The FUJI GX 680 is an SLR, NOT A RANGEFINDER.

...

Why? The actual negative size from a GSW690III is 56 x 82mm anyway, if I still remember correctly. The true 6x8 format. But then, maybe you're after the 58 x 7?mm actual size from the GSW680III?

David,

I'd email some of the used camera dealers in Japan. Perhaps someone from Japan can chime in with the places to check. When I was looking for one, I got on a waiting list, and I didn't have to wait too long.

Actual size from my Fuji GW690III is 56.5mm X 86.5mm.

Actual size from Mamiya 7II is 56mm X 70mm.

I've been looking at the fuji rangefinders a lot recently. 4x5" format doesn't suit me but 6x9, in theory, has the same aspect ratio as 35mm (1.5). I'm terribly fond of 35mm, so it's big medium-format brother sounds quite appealing. Does anyone have any experience using hot-shoe light meters on these cameras? I have a hand held meter but found it a bit cumbersome to use on the fly.

I use Voigtlander VC II hot shoe light meters on my 6x6, 6x7 and 6x9 RF cameras.

Love them!

Meter angle approximately 30 degrees

Silicon Metering Cell

LED meter read out, center round green LED, red LEDs on both sides

ISO 25 to 3200 with 1/3 stop increments on the film speed dial

The ISO film speeds are marked at 1/3 stops.

Powered by two LR 44 alkaline or SR44 silver oxide batteries

I've had a GW690 III from way back and - despite sometimes wishing that it was a a GSW, or that the lenses were interchangeable - I've continued to be an avid supporter. The quality of the results from the 90mm lens is quite something - and it stops down to f32 without seemingly losing too much (at the print sizes I tend to make). Loaded with Tri-X 220 most of the time, it's been a good friend for many years.
