hi guys,

was flying over this thread now and was wondering if anyone of you knows a reliable (online)shop in japan where to buy a 690 from?
a friend of mine is there currently and could bring it back home in order to safe taxes, customs, shipping...

cheers,
martin

I just borrowed one from school this weekend and I had to join just to echo the original poster.
I just processed the negs (pan-f in d-76). My first experience larger than 35mm.

"wow"

srm... glad you enjoyed using the camera. Let us know your impression when you get to make a print. :D I think you will be just as surprised.

I was able to print a few today.

they look pretty good! some depth of field issues but that comes with the larger format, right?

also the school only has 6 x7 carriers, is this normal?

For anyone looking Yahoo Japan auctions have 5 Fuji 6x8 range finders for sale, both GW and GSW.

I see so much there I'd like to buy, but you'll find that 99% will not ship "gaikoku" (out of the country). I've got a Jap friend in Australia and despite offering transfer from a local Japanese bank they won't do it. And it sh!ts him off too.

I found one place that will ship, but they want a wire transfer. If not, they want to charge a 6% fee for using a Visa card. I had to pass on it because it was just too high and the language barrier is a big one.

I know. It's a closed market for some reason like the Japanese stock market. But then, when you look at eBay to buy things bigger than cameras and lenses such as enlargers, many sellers don't ship their items overseas either.

I don't know what to tell ya...

I have 4 or 5 enlargers sitting in my studio right now. I would love to sell them but the local market is a joke and the
thought of taking them apart and paying $200 or more to send them to Japan is a bit crazy.

But if you need an enlarger, let me know.
