Fuji discontinues Superia 200

Well, Fuji has been busy axing film stocks again, this time Superia 200 is the unlucky victim. Zorki Photo was contacted by Fujifilm UK to confirm Superia 200 has been axed, leaving Fuji C200 in its spot as a consumer ISO 200 color negative film. Another casualty on the film market, all the while other brands are expanding their film stocks...

The only warehouse chain I knows that sells Fujifilm 35mm film, sells 3 packs of Superia 200 only, I wonder if Superia 400 will take its place, or Fuji C200.

We sell a lot of Superia 200 as it's our cheapest film. The packs were quite popular. I was always satisfied with the results when I shot it, and I shot it a lot for testing cameras and the like. We sell it alongside the 400, which now will only be available in single 36exp. rolls. Sad to see another film go, but at least it's not leaving a gaping hole in the market. Hopefully we can sell C200 in multi-roll packs.

Is the concern with it due to losing a low cost film? or is there any distinct characteristics to this film that you think warrant its continuation?

I remember buying loads of this to test cameras and locations :/

Acros and 400H are the only Fuji films that I shoot anymore. I've moved away from their E6 films and they dropped Reala which was my go to C41 film.

Such a disappointment.

Yes, Reala was a very unique film. That's the only colour I shot.

I think that the Agfa Vista film sold in the U.K Poundland shops for £1 is Fuji 200 but may be Fuji C200 and not Superia so is safe. Can anyone confirm my suspicions? Otherwise if it is Superia 200 then Agfa Vista as we know it will eventually disappear.

Not wishing to divert the thread but what is/are the essential difference(s) between C200 and Superia? Is it the famous 4th layer that you used to see advertised on Superia film?

Agfa Vista is indeed Fuji C200 or vice - versa. If you look at the cassette felt lined slot where the film protrudes from there is a small typefaced number. This designates the type of film it contains. This number on Vista is the same as Fuji C200

This is such an out of the blue thing, may it be a market discontinuation (no more imports in UK?). Fuji still made a Superia venus 800 in Japan. Let's see what's said tomorrow.
Superia 200 is a quite decent film and a great offering. It was my last summer film and technically better than c200 which is OK but has a rather "Party like 1987" palette.

Acros and 400H are the only Fuji films that I shoot anymore. I've moved away from their E6 films and they dropped Reala which was my go to C41 film.

I wonder if a material problem had something to do with Reala. That was a big loss and in the current portfolio it would nicely get along 400H. BTW 160NS had quite a funny regional distribution: None in the US, and Japan had 120, 220 (that's what surprised me) and sheets.
Also, Fujicolor 100 is all but gone... but there's a "Fujicolor Industrial 100" in Japan.

Again, what the Fuji?

Superia 200 was the closest thing to Reala - not the same but close.

The link also claims that 800 and 1600 are cut, grim. Only 400 left which I think is the worst of all the Superia offerings.

I have no problem with them paring down their lineup to keep the film division profitable. As long as they keep Velvia, Provia, Acros and the Pro series films, this decision makes sense, have a high end and low end, no need for middling stuff.

I'll mourn the loss of 1600

The "so-called" fourth layer does produce a different colour palette. And it's not "so-called". It's real.

C200 (Also sold as Agfa Vista) renders greens a bit strongly for my liking though this can be to your advantage when photographing landscapes. It does produce gorgeous blues. Reds are fine unless you over-expose...so don't over-expose. For £1 it's a real bargain at Poundland...long may it continue.

But the axing of any film is sad. Superia 200 was tangibly different to C200 and in some situations certainly better. Superia 400 has little or nothing over the Kodak offerings.

Now this is interesting!! I actually heard about Fuji stopping to produce it already last year, 2016, in August, so almost 9 monts ago!
Since this is my favourite film, I was shocked and I asked one company in Swizerland that brought up the news and they told me (translated to English):

"We got the information first directly from Japan (PEN-Weekly), afterwards from Wahl Trading AG early August, and finally Fujifilm Swizerland confirmed it.
It may be that different countries have different amounts of film left, what is certain though is that the production in Japan has already stopped."

This is the answer I got already on 30th August 2016! Since nothing happened then, I hoped it was wrong and am now surpirsed to read about it here, almost 9 months later!

I've noticed that AgfaPhoto Vista is currently out-of-stock in our local Poundland shops. I asked a member of staff, but she had no knowledge of any future deliveries (although she said that didn't mean it was discontinued). Might be worth keeping a check if you want to stock up.

I just replied in another thread after reading the blog article.

I can't believe this. Fuji 800 is great...but I noticed it's been hard to get lately. The 1600 is great, too...if expensive and something to splurge on once in a while. I recently picked up a 4-pack of Superia 400 that was on sale at Rite-Aid.

Some people here won't care, because they only shoot medium format, or pro films, or Kodak, or are black-and-white only, or only shoot slow film, or only slides...but for everyone else, myself included this is a big deal. I prefer Fuji's C-41 over Kodak's and I prefer the price, too.

Fuji's websites always have been a mess. For instance in the two country registers of their european and world gateways, the UK is not even listed, still there is such site...

Fuji UK seemingly sent it to dealers but did not publish it on their site. I have not seen such statement on any of their sites so far.

Look at the other cassettes the numbers will tell. If they are the same film the numbers will be the same. To be honest I use Vista all the time and have never been dissapointed with the rendition so at present I am not getting all that worried about lack of film stock.
