Might be nice if you told us what brand and model P&S camera you are offering up.

Hi Rick,

If I was offering up a camera to an adult user,
the brand & model would certainly be provided.
This Basic No Frills Camera would be appropriate for children,
a wee tiny amateur child.
That would not know the difference, at such an early age.
But, a child that would be fascinated by the photographic process,
like I was when I first got an Instamatic many years ago.

Thats cool, I've been handing out P&S shooters to the neighborhood kids for a couple of years now. I hunt down decent quality cameras form thrift shops, clean them up and test them, and find a deserving kid with a smigeon of interest to give it to. I hand them out loaded with film and the request that the exposed film come back to me so I can process it and give the results to the kid. I sometimes end up with a kid who will persue photography further, and have a student out of it.
