I’m helping a friend sell his late father’s photo equipment. His dad was an enthusiastic lifelong photographer and a great fan of Fred Picker and Zone VI, so those of you familiar with Fred will recognize some of the equipment he use to recommend in these listings. I’ll be listing the gear a little at a time as I’m able to examine, photograph, and describe it. PayPal (must have a verified address) payments will go directly to my friend, while I’ll be handling the logistics since the gear is at my house to make listing easier. This means shipments might be a day or two slower than you’d expect from me because I’ll have to get the shipping info for each transaction from my friend. You can help me by sending a screenshot showing your PayPal verified shipping address after you've completed the transaction, that will allow me to get the item ready for shipping sooner. Prices quoted include shipping to addresses in the continental US unless otherwise stated. International sales aren’t out of the question, so don’t be afraid to ask, but keep in mind that the shipping cost could be surprisingly high. Asking prices are largely set a little below average prices of completed eBay sales, plus listings on LFPF and Photrio. Please let me know if you think a price is way out of line.

Here's one of dad's prize possessions, his Zone VI-modified Pentax Spotmeter V with a Zone VI pouch. The meter works but is a half stop or so off from my Pentax Digital spotmeter. The low-light illuminator doesn't work. There's some fungus inside the front lens - you can't see it looking through the eyepiece but it's plain as day if you look into the front. My apologies for the motion artifacts in the picture, it took me a lot of tries to get a picture of the fungus even this clear. The battery compartment is clean. If it were me I'd send it to Richard Ritter to have him clean it up and calibrate it. I think $125 shipped in the US is a fair asking price for a genuine Zone VI modified meter in this condition, let me know if you think differently.

Dad's other meter is this Gossen Lunasix. It's the same as the Luna Pro, that was a US name while Lunasix was used in Europe. Tom remembers being the official Carrier of the Gossen Meter as a kid when he accompanied his dad on photo trips. I tested it with some old Wein MRB625 cells I had lying around and it appears to function although I can't vouch for its calibration (comparing a 30° meter against a spotmeter without an accurate light source is a bit dodgy) but it responded to light in the way I would have expected. The battery compartment is clean. The leather case shows some wear and a bit of verdigris on the metal snaps. Asking $25 shipped in the US.

Does the Lunasix have the battery adapter that will allow the use of 357 silver oxide batteries instead of the 625 mercury ones? Or do you know if it’s been adjusted/modified to use the 625 size alkaline battery?

Stan

No, it doesn't have the battery adapter. I don't believe it's been adjusted for alkaline batteries, at least it doesn't have a sticker from someplace like Quality Light Metric that would indicate it's been worked on. I tested it with a couple of Wein cells I've had for some years (unopened and unused) - they don't fit any other equipment I have at the moment so I figured I'd sacrifice them for this. They're normally good for a few months once opened and I'll include them with the meter.

The Wein cell is a Zinc-air battery that matches the voltage characteristics of mercury cells. It works well in my experience, the only drawback is its relatively short life.
