I bought this Zone VI Compensating Enlarging Timer 6 years ago (I think) from Calumet, together with an original Zone VI Photocell, and the Footswitch, hoping to use it with my old cold light source one day. However, I ended up using the Ilford 500 system, and I let go of the cold light, so I never got to use the timer. While rumbling through my storage today, I just realised I still had this timer.
I have it, and it works, and the photocell is correctly measuring the light output. You can read more about the photocell (there was a url link here which no longer exists). The only thing that does not seem to do anything is the "Sound" knobalthough the timer times, no sound comes out.
If you are new to this device, bear in mind that the photocell has to be plugged in and must be used. You cannot use this timer without one. It is cleverly designed, so that during the exposure it measures the light coming out of a potentially varying light source, and it ensures that the same exposure has been delivered each time, no matter how the brightness has changed in the lamp housing. This is of importance to cold-light users, as those sources tend to have a slow warm-up/start-up time, and they deviate with ambient conditions and the temperature inside their housing. It can be used with other light sources, but it won't be of as much use.
Please note, this is a 220V unit, however, strangely, the "lamp" socket is US-style. Yes, I checked it on 220V, and you can even see "220V" embossed on the back of the unit (see photo).
There is no manual with it, however, there is a guide explaining how to install and connect the photocell. Although it came without a power cord, I'd be happy to include a UK-style one (it uses a common IEC C13 connector, see photo).
