Hey guys, I got myself a second Chamonix View Camera and was going to use it as a student camera for teaching but I'm still a student and need the money. I'm keeping my original and selling this one which I've made several upgrades to.
This is the Chamonix 4x5 N-1
However I've installed the new N-2 GG which fixed a focus problem in the original design, it also includes markings for 6x12, 6x9, 6x7, 6x6, and 645 for roll backs and MF sliding backs and a new carbon fiber protection cover to keep the glass from damage. I've used it a bunch and it's great. The inner GG is glass but the outer cover to project it is plastic and does have some very minor micro scratches but you can hardly tell, I couldn't get any in the photos.
Has universal bellows. Pretty much the only difference between this and the N-2 is the rear tilt mechanism which was "upgraded" to give the N-2 a minor tilt function separate from the secondary sliding function, however honestly I thin the N-1 is better because it gives you more tilt than the N-2 (See Pictures as to why, compared against my N-2).
The only reason I'm keeping my N-2 instead of this camera is because my name is on the N-2, otherwise frankly I would sell that one.
I've also noticed that the N-1 has MUCH better rear locking. I think this is due to a slightly less slippery surface between the locking metal pieces and therefore more friction. I've noticed some rear movement even fully locked down on my N-2 but the N-1 is a lot more solid.
This model also has ruler markings for the rear extension which are in mm which is super helpful for calculating reciprocity since you don't have to have a ruler to measure you can just use the lines (as long as you memorize what the initial distance is of course).
The bellows are in pretty good shape, some slight "usage" is evident, I think the previous owner folded it up wrong a few times before figuring it out, but in no way would I call them "damaged" just aren't perfectly new looking (again see pictures).
This wood is BEAUTIFUL. I know Chamonix switched very early to the teak/maple (and recently cherry) wood, but I just love the look of this dark walnut, such a nice color.
For that reason, I'm actually pricing this slightly higher than a new N-2. I know these walnut versions don't come around very often and honestly its just an overall nicer camera "they don't make them like they used to"
Will pack this extremely well.
$1,200 OBO
PayPal accepted.
Pictures... (I had to lower the image quality a LOT to get them to upload, so if you'd like dropbox versions of the original files to really see the wood detail etc, just send me a message and I'll link you to the files. These images don't show how nice the wood is).
