Consolidated Industries revolving darkroom door - fits a 31 inch wide opening (at 78 inches of height). Door is used and dusty, but works great, rotates smoothly. I have two of these, I am keeping one for my darkroom. You see these often on the online auction site, but they are NEVER near you + the shipping is too expensive. For some reason, the ones you see there are also waaaayyyyy over priced. When I went looking for a revolving door for my new lab, I searched for the better part of a year, then I found TWO (what a blessing !). You can come see (and pick it up) at my home in Fredericksburg, VA (about 45 minutes south of Washington, D.C.). I cannot ship this, sorry.

That's genius! I'm in Rockville, and I know my family would kill me but I am so so tempted by your offer. Is it light tight 100% of the time? As in can you enter the darkroom without flooding any light?

Yes - it is tight enough. Every revolving door I've had requires some sort of dressing around the frame to really seal the edges. This on is well used and marked up. It's close to your home. If your family does kill you, they could burry ya in the door (it's very roomy) !

If they don't kill him they might have to kill me. But I don't know how long it will take me to get there. I'm working across the country for a while.

last year, they were giving away 4 of these on craigslist for a few weeks in new york city. I think they probably threw them out, which is a shame. I would have loved one of these at home, but just not enough space, and I didnt have a truck to pick up.

I wanted one of these until I visited a school darkroom that had one and realized it would restrict moving large items in and out of the darkroom. I would not have room to have a regular door and a revolving door. It is a neat idea.

I think the newer versions can be disconnected from the door easily and pop out. Designed for the intent of fire safety. But yes I have to use one of these everyday, and it sure is a hassle to move trays in and out, turning it with your foot. With age the doors can get stuck when the edges get bent out of alignment too.

I used to live in Tucson, AZ - my darkroom was the only place that had real air conditioning. Everytime I would walk out to my guest house (where the darkroom lived) - both my full sized dogs would follow. They both insisted on getting into the darkroom with me at the same time - so it was always the three of us trying to spin that door around. They wanted to lay on the cool tile floor while I worked.

Timing, as they say, is absolutely everything. I literally just finished the darkroom in my new-to-me house, which was designed for a side-swinging 28" door, and I am just down the road. I would love to have incorporated this into my plan, but there is just no way that I could use it now without tearing out some of my nice work, and I cannot face that prospect. Dang!
