Just upgraded, so it's time to sell.

Selling my Nikon 400mm f 2.8 D IF ED II telephoto lens. $4650 OBO

Works great for film or digital, sports or wildlife, extreme portraits or a new angle on scenic photography. I've used it for all of the above, and it's served me more than well.

Comes complete with CT 402 lens trunk, short and long tripod bases, lens cover, and double lens hood. Lens is in great shape overall, with clean and clear optics and just a few small scratches on the outside barrel, as it was always covered with a neoprene cover when in use.

The only negative is that the tripod stopper nob has stripped out of the base plate on the lens hood, which is very common on this lens. The parts cost about $35 from Nikon, I simply haven't had time to order them. On the other hand, both of the bases have no wear at all as I used a Wimberly base instead, and never used the Nikon bases.

Feel free to ask questions. I'd prefer to sell this locally, but will consider shipping. I'll drive a bit to meet if that helps, whatever helps to get the deal done. Shipping is extra, Paypal please.

Will also trade for a Nikon D4s.

Sigh….It is available from Nikon. Maybe not in the past, but it is now. And yes…they still service this version of the 400mm 2.8.

I actually know the maker of the other piece. Good product, too. But I'm pretty sure the original part works just fine also.
