For Sale Leica R 280mm f4 Apo-Telyt 3 Cam lens in M/M- condition. Included with the lens are the box, lens case with strap, Heliopan 77mm UV SH-PMC filter, and Really Right Stuff lens plate (I believe 97L) which is no longer made. The filter sells new today for $117 and the lens plate probably sold for $65 new.
My asking price is $1600 less than what I paid for the lens in 2012. My asking price is also hundreds less than comparable lenses in this condition and also with accessories not included on eBay. Please make an offer.
I am rating the lens in a 9 condition, though it would be a 9+ except for the slight lines on the bottom of the lens mount where the RRS lens plate locks to the lens and one small loss of the black paint. Reinstalling the RRS plate will cover these. Even with that, the lens is in a 9 to a 9+ condition. I am not the original owner, but purchased the lens some years ago on eBay. I believe that the lens should cover the format size of the Fujfilm GFX cameras.
The body of the lens is in outstanding condition and the optics are pristine with no damage to the coatings, no cleaning marks, clear optics, no haze, no fungus, no element separation, no scratches, etc. There is a minor amount of dust in the lens that should not have any affect on the lens performance.
The lens has been kept in a smoke free, heated, and air conditioned home.
I brought the lens to PhotoPlus in NYC the year that Leica introduced the new SL camera and we tested the lens with the camera. The Leica reps commented how smooth the focus was of this particular lens, smoother than they were accustomed compared to others they had used in the recent past with the camera.
I have used the lens alone and also with the 1.4X extender with my Sony A7r camera and am including samples of the images taken with the naked lens as well as with the 1.4X Apo Extender. Some of the images are full frame and others are cropped. The lens is exceptionally sharp.
A total of only 2,000 of these lenses were ever made by Leica Camera.
