EL Nikkor in top condition for $35 is a great price, mount it in reverse for macro and you'll be shocked how sharp it is - Great for duplicating negatives/positives - Interesting other one one as some BESELER enlarging lenses were very good and made by Rodenstock in Germany, I think I still have an 80mm one, but this one says BESLAR Japan - Never seen that before, I wonder if they (someone like Fuji/Nikon/Cosina) copied the Rodenstock/BESELER ones for Beseler?

I'd like to buy the Nikkor.
I can't remember how to PM. What do I click on to get "Start Conversation" to appear?
Thanks,
Mark Overton

I have read that about the El-Nikkors being great for macro photography. The Beslar 50mm enlarging lens is well made and was
probably contracted out by Beseler to be manufactured.

Beseler had some lenses made by Wetzlar, some by Rodenstok. I know Wetzlar made lenses carried the 'Beslon' name,. The 'Beseler HD' were Rodenstocks.
The Beslar' name was used for the relatively lower cost 4-element lenses that were provided with Beseler enlargers, with unknown origin in Japan. The 'Beseler Color Pro' were also made in Japan. Both might have been sourced from Komura.

Do you mean Leitz (Leica) who have their HQ in Wetzlar? or was there a company called Wetzlar? Wetzlar as a place, has a long photo production history, Leica, Zeiss, Minox and Heiland to name a few are there today.

Indeed. Wetzler Germany on the ring of the Beslon lens marketed at one time by Beseler.

OK - I do not see Wetzlar on the BESLAR lens, just Japan, but I think we mix up here as you are saying BESLON has Wetzlar written on lens, not a company, just the place. i.e no company used Wetzlar as their trade name.

Exactly...you mixup, not mine
Beslar: Japan
Beslon: Wetzlar Germany

Companies seem to follow the convention that '-ar' is the 'economy' enlarging lens and '-on' is the premium line
Rogonar, Rodagon
Componar, Componon
Beslar, Beslon

Fully agree, but Zeiss screwed up the tight set up somewhere with a great exception, using the early 1896 Planar10/10 which was not economy.
Tessar 1902 8/10 , Sonnar 1932 9/10
Distagon 1953 9+/ 10 Biogon 1936 10/10 Hologon 1966 10/10

I have used Planar 50/85 mm f1.4 / 1.7 and C645 Planar f2 and the ultimate APO-Macro Planar 120 /f4 and they are incredibly perfect lenses, in sharpness and contrast - I use Contax 645, Leica S2 and Nikon D810 all with adapter to use the C645 lenses as theta are so , so good and so, so cheap today compared to their new prices in the 2000's . I gues the AR in palna

I have the Beslar set for 35mm and 120. IIRC, they are both triplets; they shipped as kit lenses with one of the Beseler enlargers. Bought separately, they were around $10 each (or less). They are mediocre performers at best, suitable for smaller enlargements.

Seem to be still available new and for $99 - I was hoping it may have been an acrylic lens as I am looking for a simple lens that transmits UV 365nm without much reduction per element , as 20% per elemnet and cement layer soomn kills all transmission. A simple triplet (Cooke type) would be good for my need made in acrylic without going to calcium fluoride etc.. Apparently, acrylic lenses are very good optically and so are used inside top end camera lenses as they are optically good, but not resistant to any physical scratch/damage.
