SOLD- After building most of my cameras with a goal of making them both light weight and exceedingly usable with the idea that they will be shot alongside a digital system, I decided to stay with the usability goal but not make any concession to the final weight of the camera. The design objective of weight was replaced with the idea of creating a full function camera similar to a Sinar Handy (without the awkward bottom handle) or Linhof Technar. Small, robust and ultimately capable for any potential use.
The camera is based on a Cambo standard and has a Cambo Graflock/Universal ground glass. The standard ground glass was replaced with a hard to find grid Bosscreen to help the image pop a bit if you are focusing on the ground glass. I tried something new with this camera and mounted an original Arca Swiss plate parallel to the camera instead of perpendicular as I have on earlier cameras. Whenever I’m shooting both film and digital I keep having to rotate the direction of the Arca clamp depending on which camera I was using. The larger Arca plate is big enough to keep the camera from tipping over while making tripod changes in the field quicker and easier.
The permanently mounted handle allows for both the lens board and ground glass to be removed w/o a problem and serves as the mount for the shoulder strap. The removable Fuji 21mm finder sits on an accessory shoe that is mounted to the front lens board.
The only thing that I have been on the hunt for to finish this camera off perfectly is the official Cambo folding focusing hood to cover the ground glass while in storage or in the field when zone focusing with the indexed helical. Igor Camera has one for $150 but that includes the ground-glass frame as well, and he won’t separate them. The part number for the (hard to find) folding hood is C-929 but you can use either Cambo reflex viewing hood or the Cambo in-line viewing hood if you wanted to as well. Both of these are plentiful on the used market. I do have a reflex viewing hood that I’ve tested with it and it’s great to quickly check focus especially when shooting handheld in the field, but I’m old school and still prefer a focusing cloth if I’m on sticks.
The camera with a ‘Sinar Select’ Schneider 65mm f/8 Super Angulon is $1099 net plus shipping. I should mention the shutter was replaced and I have been on the hunt for an f/8 scale but haven’t found one so a label maker scale has been added on top of the existing scale.
Like all of my custom built cameras, this is made to withstand the rigors of longterm professional use. Everything is built from aluminum, stainless steel and wood. Nothing is 3D printed. You will be comfortable shipping the camera, carrying it in bags and backpacks and using as you would any professional metal large format camera.
Thanks for looking and stay safe and healthy everyone!
