In the past 6 months I've had the pleasure of writing checks which, together, by now add up to more than $1,000 -- that is THOUSAND -- to Catholic Community Services here in Ogden, for its food bank, the vast majority of which was raised by selling some really astonishingly silly/trashy/junky/useful cameras to the folks here.

A good friend of mine here in Roy (can I say your name Maurice?) started us off, giving me some of the duplicates/discards from his camera collection. I sold a few and -- honesty -- ended up paying CCS for a couple myself. His discards upgrade my collection.

Inspired by him, I started scouring my own highly overcrowded darkroom/collection storage/mess for the same. I've found those I am tired of, put them up here, and out they go.

Some were real nice -- a couple old plate cameras, for example, or a battered-but-serviceable Rolleicord. Some, like the stuff that went out today, can only kindly be described as junk.

But someone wants anything, just about, and it's all for a good cause.

Catholic Community Services runs the Joyce Hansen-Hall Food Bank, which provides desperately needed food for thousands of my neighbors here in Ogden. I've been there during food distributions and, no matter what you hear in the news, these are not folks collecting a free ride, a free meal, government largesse. All are poor, many are seniors, all are hungry, the food is sparse and not for picky eaters.

The food bank is run by a personal friend, so I know it's honest. You can read more about it here:

Nothing for sale this time, but more is in the box downstairs. I just felt that, since I sent them $60 last week and another $100 this week, the grand total must be more than a grand and it was time to thank the nice folks at APUG for giving me a forum to sell that rather specialized stuff to. Yes, I added a bit to my own dues for renewal this month -- Karma all around, says I.

And to you folks who bought this stuff -- especially those who tacked on a little more -- thank you. Next time you're in Ogden, look me up --the (Utah) beer is on me.

Hi Charles,
Thank you for doing this. It is fun for us to see & read your posts AND it feeds people.
Someday I'm gonna get there first when you post another nice piece of someone else's photographic junk that will turn into a nice winter restoration project for me (got beaten twice by someone else).
Thanks,
Bert from Holland

I hope that 135mm Componon-S I bought from you doesn't look like dumpster food when it shows up...

It's nice to help out a good cause; thanks for what you're doing.

It's well packed, not to worry, with a cupla other toys taking up the excess space. Thanks!

I wasn't worried about the packaging; I was thinking about you saying that the stuff you'd shipped out recently was photographic junk. :D

i was referring to the Olympus/Kiev and minolta listings yesterday. OK, the minoltas do work, so perhaps "junk" is excessive, but not for that Kiev.:whistling::wink:

and the Zeiss in the box with the componon? Junk.

From a digital point of view: YES.
From an APUG point of view: probably not, especially since we have Duct tape ........

One man's junk is another man's treasure, or in this case, dinner. Kudos/blessings to those who give to others!
