I agree with the sentiments of cptrios. I had what I thought was an entry level camera I cobbled together when I couldn't afford anything else. I enjoyed the process, found large format to be something I could enjoy and did so with a KB Canham I bought used and have thoroughly enjoyed for a long time. My intent was to provide someone else the same inexpensive opportunity to try out large format. However, I cannot begrudge the buyer who made money off my naivete.
Social media (forums such as this if they may be called that) and the internet have been enormously helpful to me, putting the thinking and experience of incredible people at my fingertips 24/7/365, so it is hard to complain too much about the downside. Almost every piece of photographic gear I now own was bought used in a worldwide marketplace that didn't even exist when I bought my brand new Mamiya Sekor 100 DTL 35mm in the late 70s
I have found this whole exchange interesting and educational, though it would have been nice to finance one of Ari's carbon fiber tripods with my old junker (It really isn't as nice as it has been made out to be). I will ponder this every time I schlep the Bogen 3068 beast I paid $35 for across the desert until I finally break down and spend the cash on a lighter one.
May all our transactions be among friends and lead to mutual happiness and magnificent photos, and if not, maybe fate will smile on us in other ways
