Shawn Dougherty;1577380 You must have been all over Ohiopyle then said:
One of the few places I have fished for trout. Where Bethe has made some waterfall pictures. Lovely place. COLD!!!! water. In waders, by the time I got water up to my knees I could no longer feel anything in my feet. Who knew where they were, my feet? Didn't catch a thing. Beautiful place to admire though.

Lake Erie shoreline access

The State of Ohio DNR has two books out on public access sites for the Lake Erie shoreline and for rivers that are tributaries to Lake Erie, arranged in order by county from Toledo to the PA border.

Guide for shore access is here:

Just got this info today from a ranger at Old Woman Creek near Huron, OH when son David and I were out birding and photographing. I've had the books for a while, but the shoreline book is out of print and the web access is new. There is a brochure for the shoreline info now, and the web pages have the books in .pdf format or individual pages for each site in .pdf format available for download (put them on your ebook reader), or you can explore the sites on the web page, which has a few newer additions. New paperback edition of the shoreline access book is to come later. These are all free.

Missed seeing the gang at John's this summer, too many family issues to attend to at critical times. But I hope to make the Frozen Film weekend.

I don't know of a good 1 hour C-41 lab in Cleveland or on the west side. This has actually killed an analog business plan I worked out about 6 years ago, but was unable to execute. Drug Mart prints with inkjets and you can see smears, feeder wheel tracks, etc in the prints. The store near me isn't very careful with negs. Costco in Westlake does excellent printing, but no longer processes C-41, and you need a membership. I do a little business (occasional film and cheap used gear) with the Dodd's Westlake store, and they've been pretty good to me, and apologetic when they can't support analog as they'd like to. All Dodd's processing is now sent downtown AFAIK, and you can call the Westlake store and ask them to have any film the downtown store stocks sent out with a day or two of notice.

Went to a seasonal and craft beer tasting at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium two weeks ago, west bank of the flats, and it might be a nice place to warm up near downtown.

Lee,
These ODNR resources are great. Sue and I have been pouring over them. She has been to a great many of them and there are many more to see.

I think I should be able to go to this, but just for the Saturday...it's only about five hours drive for me, I've driven further for just a day. Leave at 5am, arrive around 10am, and leave at 6pm. That's a full day!

Ah, the young. I have difficulty getting to the gatherings at my house.

Great to hear it. And driving a long way is always justified for even 1 good photograph

I spoke with the Hotel (Residence Inn Cleveland Westlake) and they said feel free to entertain. They have a nice room, photos attached. We can bring in food and drinks, photo prints to share etc., and to be expected we will need to clean up after ourselves. The lady at the desk also mentioned a second area upstairs, but no details as yet, but a rumor of a pool table exists.

This is where they serve their morning breakfast for residents, so keep that in mind if we would like to gather up on Saturday morning, before heading out. (I do not think they sell meals to non residents).

Between writing Christmas cards, shopping for gifts, replacing the battery in my car and such Sue and I have yet to dive in on the taks to post up a list of points of attractions to plan to go to glass some birds and drag out the cameras. Keep posting your ideas on the thread. I really enjoyed digging into the links Lee put up from the DNR. I really hope as a group we can have several iteneries available for participants to take on. It goes without saying plan, plan, plan, and then do something else. **

Friday dinner, Saturday lunch, and dinner and Sunday breakfast list to follow. Keep submitting ideas.

** Disclaimer**
Sue and an avid birder and loves that I love photography, as I love her birding. She gets dozens or hundreds of emails posted by other birders and messages on bulitin boards of sightings of unusual birds. Sharing one car we may be subject to a side trip or two depending on what people send her. So I plan to travel light, warm clothes, tripod, my M2 and lenses and may end up in your car if she gets a ping and abandons me at one location we are shooting at, as she is off to find and glass the African Zoolu Gooney Bird sighted at the river inlet by the power plant or something like that. (would not be the first time)

This sounds great Lee. You are staying one city over from me. I'll definitely want to meet up and join the fun.

An update on Fairview Photo. I mentioned they do not do one-hour, so this is probably moot:
They are not open on weekends.

Also, I failed to mention earlier that they only do developing and printing - they do not sell film or chemicals. Still, it's a great place.

Jeff, really looking forward to seeing you. Be great to get out together and do some photos.
Lee

Thanks a million for the info on Fairview Photo. Been looking for a local C-41 lab with quality handling.

Fairview Photo Services info

My son ran two rolls of E-6 through Fairview Photo Services last week. They came out clean and well mounted.

Their hours are 10am-6pm M-F, closed weekends. They said they currently run B&W, C-41, and E-6 on Wed, Thu, Fri. We dropped on a Friday morning and picked up on a Monday afternoon, although the slides were not mounted until a bit before 4pm Monday.

The person I talked to didn't know which B&W chems were in use, but thought they might be Ilford.

The place is a little hard to spot as the signs are in the windows slanted west, and it's on the north side of the road. The signs for Quantum Graphics in the same building are easier to spot coming from the east.

Dead Link Removed has contact info and a price list. Google Maps has a good street view of the building facade from several angles.

Yep, that's the place I mentioned. I think he uses a Phototherm. They do a very good job. You can see on the website they will also push and pull; even C-41. They are very friendly and accommodating.

The way I find them is to know which side of the road is North - they are on the North side. Now, if I'm approaching from the West (heading East), they are just beyond the Burger King. It is on the corner of W227th. Pass Burger King and 227th and it's the fourth building on the North side. If you reach a small plaza on the North, you've gone too far.
If I'm moving East to West I watch for the plaza, and if I pass the Burger King, I know I missed them.

You can park on the street. There are also two parking spaces between the street and sidewalk. However, the little "alleyway" along side the building will take you to a small parking lot. You have to walk around to the front to enter, though.

I dropped off some old negatives for scanning & printing last Thursday, and they will probably be ready tomorrow. Just old negatives that I'd lost the prints of, or a drugstore minilab screwed up.

Here is a Google Maps link (and it is accurate):

Happy New Year Everone.
Sue and I are getting excited. We were out in the not so cold Dayton weather talking about how good it will be to see everyone up Cleveland way.
We hope 2014 brings great things to all.

Has anyone attempted a schedule of activities? I want to decide whether I should do two nights in Cleveland, or just drive up on Saturday morning and spend only one night.

Thanks in advance,

-- Mark

PS - based on the weather we're predicted to have in Columbus this week, namely sub-zero morning temperatures, maybe I should wait for a weather forecast closer to the 17th
