I bought a s/h Cinegon lens for the Leicina Special Super 8 camera from a shop in Europe. The very front of the lens is loose. You can see the image shift slightly through the viewfinder as the front is moved. Should I try and fix this myself or send for repair?

(I'm not practiced at lens repair).

if there's a retaining ring in front of it, try screwing it down using only finger friction so you don't scratch the lens with a screw driver or something.

if not, send for repair or find another lens. They can't be expensive...

It's not the retaining ring, but the whole of last end section of the lens. I guess it holds the last element.

Leica lenses? They are expensive enough.

To be more specific, there's sideways play on the front section above the aperture ring. If the aperture ring is opened or closed fully then that play disappears.

After the horror stories appearing on APUG from people who have attempted lens repair have a professional look at it.
