Guess this should have been the first post I did here, but I didn't quite find this little area right off...
I'm an overly enthusiastic photo student that goes to Columbia College in Chicago.
I live with 4 other people, 3 of whom are also fellow film enthusiasts, in a small apartment in the Wicker Park area. (One of them is also on this site, trevortrevor)
Started out in Digital and have since fallen in love with film and the wet process, though the facilities at school help to encourage some 'hybrid' tendencies (Imacon scanners, Epson 4800s and a film recorder or two), the vast majority of my work is done in the darkroom.
Been busy lamenting my timing, as I fall in love with Agfa paper around the time Agfa falls out, and am completely enamored with Forte films, only to find they're stopping production.

Really love experimenting with things in regards to film, though so far that's been limited to pushing films and playing with different developers, though from the sound of things, I'll likely be coating my own paper in the near future and playing with alternative processes.
I'm also starting to do some work with ULF in the form of an 11x14 Deerdorf. Purely studio work for now, I doubt I can take that thing anywhere.

Running across these forums has seriously been like falling down the rabbit hole into some haven of film, I can't get enough of it.

RoBBo,

Welcome to APUG from NYC.

Don't despair; evolution does not mean extinction. You are an example. New "blood" coming into film phototgraphy is essential to its survival.

Enjoy the site - it's a great one!

Hey, check out the "challenge" in my sig (and get those "roomies" involved here too! ).

Welcome RoBBo from western Mass. This is a great site and I am sure you're gonna fit right in.

Welcome from eastern Mass. Film is great. Film is exciting. Film is contagious. All that's left to do is pass it on.

Welcome aboard from Japan, via the western suburbs!

Saludos amigo! It's nice down here in the rabbit hole LOL....

Great to see you here, Robbo. I'm a couple of hours to the east, in South Bend. I'd be very grateful if you would announce any good photography exhibitions in the area, whenever that happens.

I was just in South Bend a few weeks ago, shot some boxing practice bits.

Apparently there's something good going on at the Art Institute right now, though I can't remember what at the moment and I haven't been by to check it out yet.
Robert Heinecken has some work up in the MoCP right now that's absolutely stunning.

Is that the Museum of Contemporary Photography? And isn't that just down the street from the Art Institute?

Yessir.
And I just remember whats at the Art Institute right now, something like the most important photographers from 1967-2007, something like that, haven't gone to see it yet.

Well, when they do the most important photographers from 1880 to 1920, pick up the red phone and notify me immediately! The last time that I was there, the photography on display at the Art Institute was equally slanted toward very recent work, including giant, color inkjet prints. And I let the photography department know what I thought about it, too.
