I'm relatively new to analog photography and, as follows logically, to photography in general. I was attracted to the art of working with film and printing in a darkroom by way of digital photography. I know I'm not supposed to use that word around here, but I'd not be a part of this group without it! The ease and convenience of my little point and shoot digital has lead to lots of work with black and white 35mm film, an interest in antique cameras and some initial poking around with large format.

As a result, I'm not at all *anti* digital. I consider my DSLR another tool in my image capturing arsenal along with my Nikon F100, an old Brownie, some 127 box cameras and a classic Polaroid SX70. I suppose I'm "playing the field" as I figure out what I want to do and where I want to go with photography. No matter what, however, I can't envision life without film and darkroom. Even if the results of my work aren't all that great, I find the process enormously satisfying.

So I'm very happy to have found this community!

I'd love to get together with other Chicago photographers. Just so long as we don't do - millennium park or something like that. I've seen entirely too many photographs of the "bean" !

Greetings from Omaha. I make it up your way about 4 times a year with the wife and/or kids to hit museums, festivals, sports and photograph.

A lot of us use digital for a variety of applications from family snaps (my wife has roped me into that) to professional apps. It's not so much we are totally against digtial. We are against the many proponents of digital who continually trash traditional photography in an attempt to elevate the value or importance of their own work and justify the expense of constantly having to upgrade software and equipment.

How about Millinium Park? I think Daley would call out the SWAT team on us.

I think a gathering would be cool, any ideas?

Ok, Morton Arboretum in Lisle is pretty "camera freindly"?

Indeed it is, sadly, they changed the cost of entrance to non-members up to $7 per adult... used to be $5.. fun place to shoot photos either way.

I am orginally from Naperville, lived there for most of my life before transfering to Japan ten years ago. Though I still make a pilgramge back to the area a couple of times a year.

Welcome aboard.
