Hello Everyone:smile:
Dave Miller from the center of England, as he calls it, suggested I join you. Most people know me for my black and white images taken in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland - www.scotland-info.co.uk/snapshots. I've been travelling to the islands every summer (although it doesn't always feel like summer in their summer) since 1994. It's the people that I love to photograph. Over the years we have noticed great changes in their way of life, which has moved from a sheep-based economy, Harris Tweed etc to tourism as the number one industry.

A portrait of my twin grand-daughters gained me a Bronze Medal in 2006 in the Royal Photographic Society's International Exhibition.

Hi Monica, welcome from East Anglia.

Monica:

Welcome from the west coast of Canada.

Welcome. I made it to Skye this year (my first trip to Scotland); you can bet the Outer Hebrides are high on my list of destinations.

Hi from another resident of middle England, a little to the west of Dave Miller. They don't need summers in the Hebrides, They have their malt. So do we in England but ours is called Horlicks. The drink that makes you long for the morning to arrive.

Hi Monica.
I sailed to the Outer Hebrides from Sweden some years ago and will return. Also, St Kilda is high up on my list but not that easy to anchor there.

I hope the weather wasn't too rough! It's beautiful there when the sun shines - some of the best beaches in the world. The Hebrideans are fantastic people. :smile:Try to make it to St Kilda. You won't regret it. Please take a look at my blog 'Visions of St Kilda': Dead Link Removed

I agree. The most distant islands are always the best, probably without exception. On our way down from the Shetland islands to the Hebrides we had so seek shelter for a couple of days on Fair isle, that was very interesting as well. Too bad I only used colour in those days... About the beaches: We picked a couple of dinners of cockle shells on the beach on Barra. But I don't remember doing any real swimming except for the usual quick dives from the boat to get reasonably clean.
