Freestyle "out of stock"

Just wondering if anyone has noticed lately that much of Freestyles stock is "out"...I looked up three different types of bulk film (Ilford Delta 400 for example), along with most Arista Developers, fixers and washes! I just now started looking for what my options were and they were very few! Any body experience this also? I have decided to try bulk loading and thought I would get Delta 400 or tri-x....

No, I have not had this experience. I shop a the store rather than on-line. I have noticed that some stuff really moves quickly. One Saturday there were stacks of HP5 and FP4 in 4x5 so I asked my wife to get me a couple boxes on Tuesday... only to have her say that they were almost the last boxes on the shelf. I doubt that there aren't too many other stores that sell 40 or so boxes of 4x5 in 2 days. Even the "junk box" items seem to move quickly.

They might be doing an inventory turn on some items. Running down stocks before expiry etc.

Why not e-mail them?

A..yuppers!! And that is a good thing. Just got an order form them today, 8x10,5x7 (Efke) and some 120-FP4+.

The "back to school" option occurred to me after I posted the question! Good to know...I have only made to journey back to film in the last few months...maybe next year I will plan ahead of time!

Yes U/Bill, and that school bell is loud and long. It looks like that real film and paper and all the other stuff is alive and doing better if not well.

I talk to Freestyle a few times a week (ok, so my picture is on the web site and in the catalog). So things are fine and stock will be comming in all the time so, let the kids get some stuff for school/classes and call back and re-order.

The staff, will be more than happy to tell you when things are coming in so give them a call.

Yea its a back to school trend, because the 8x10 sheets of color paper we keep in the freezer for a while, bout this time of the year we'll run thru the whole stock in less than a couple days. Where as any other time of the year it might sit in there for a couple months.

I guess you really can say "dark room is dead" when we suppliers can not keep up with the demand for "dark room" products, chemistry, film, & paper.

When students come in and drop bout 200-400$ each on photographic paper, chemicals, B&W film and what not, you can truely say film is not dead, but in contrast to how many people are shooting digital, its certainly deminished, but definitly not dead.

My best guess will be kodak. Fuji or ilford would be next but not certain as to who would go first.

basically they'll die out until it comes down to just enough manufactures to satify the current demands, as right now with the existing MFR, things are spread thin across the various manufactures so in each of the MFRs its a very diminished number, so if one did go, the customer base may either shift over to the other manufactures, or half of them would give up on film. I'm hoping more for a shift.

But for it to continue , we must continue to buy film, right now i'm pretty much using a bunch of old stock rather than buying fresh stuff.
