I can't say that a free roll of film would stimulate me to buy a magazine, I would hope it has more to offer than just a free roll of Delta...

Apart from making a statement about your feelings regarding the magazine, the transaction is uneconomic since a roll of the film in question costs £1.70 :confused:

I don't see it as a magazine with a free roll of Delta400. I see it as a cheap roll of Delta400 (£2.10 instead of £3.19) with too much packaging.

Dave, where do you get a 36 frame roll of D400 for £1.70? The best price I've seen was Jessops @ £3.19. (They even beat Silverprint @ £3.64 and Firstcall @ £3.98)

<edit> Nova have it at £2.62 and Secondhand Darkroom Supplies have it at £2.40. The mag deal is still cheaper.

Usually these offers include a 24 exposure roll of 35mm film, that's the price I quoted. If it's a 36 exposure then the price from http://www.7dayshop.com is £2.04; plus of course postage, which will make the trade somewhat uneconomic if only one roll is purchased. So it could be that your cunning plan is the one to follow; on the otherhand a short perusal of the AP small ads may lead you to further bargans that you find you can't live without.

Mathers of Lancashire do Delta 400 for 1.99 (24) or 2.59 (36) and, unlike 7 dayshop, their customer service is good and it's usually next day delivery.

They do FP4 and HP5 for 1.79.

Every time I've rung them the film has arrived in the next day's post.

7dayshop are still slightly cheaper for some things but these days I buy everything from either Mathers or Retrophotographic -- I just can't stand the wait from 7dayshop.

Yes - I have had reliability problems with 7 day shop in terms of delivery - it is always longer than you think it will be.

One of the reasons I think that people should buy the magazine is so that there is a good circulation increase so the publishers realise there are people still interested in film buying their mag.

Thanks for the link, I use SHD and Retro for most of my film- now I have another source .(I like the "of Lancashire" bit in the name - maybe It's the impending 50 but I miss seeing counties on addresses.)

As for the mag - I'm surprised AP knew what a film canister looked like !

AP isn't a bad magazine. There is still a lot of analogue stuff, particularly readers' photos & answers to readers technical questions. Also they publish every month or so an article on classic cameras which are very informative (particularly about what to avoid). The magazine is also worth it for the adverts, particularly for cheap sources of film. There are several others in addition to those already mentioned.

Realistically the magazine has to devote a lot of space to things digital or it would go out of circulation. The inclusion of a free film may encourage people to explore analogue photography and monochrome in particular. It's difficult to think of any other photo magazine that would include a free film these days.
