I have a Devere 504 large format enlarger that, sadly, I need to get out of my basement. It is a real workhorse of an enlarger with a 500 watt dichro head, which really reduces printing times. The enlarger is on a floor stand and the easel can be lowered to do huge enlargements. I also have a 250 watt head if anyone is interested.

I have used it for a long time for medium format and 4x5 but I am switching to something smaller because I am doing different things in the darkroom now and need more space. It really is a terrific machine, kind of the Rolls Royce of enlargers, and built like the proverbial brick outhouse, I want to do more 8x10 contact printing and alt processes and need more counter space, so something has to give.

This has to be pickup only and I am just testing the waters to see if there is any interest. If there is, I will supply as many photos and details as you need. If it is time for you to step up to a serious large format enlarger, this may be the one for you.

I am in Canada in the Ottawa/Gatineau area.

Sounds like I need a road trip to Canada.

I'm guessing the largest negative is 4x5. Not 5x7?
Does it have a diffusion head?
Gatineau is such a nice area, my daughter lives right by the park.

Please add a few photos to the OP.

Not yes. Border still closed to non-commercial traffic for another couple of weeks.

I'm sure there's a broken fence I could slide it through somewhere....

Hi Rob. I believe I have bought stuff from you in the past, a while back. And yes, Gatineau is wonderful. A treat for landscape photographers. It is one of the few cities in the world to have a pure wilderness park only about a 15 minute drive from the centre of the city.

It is a diffusion head (500w) and I also have a 250w head. I do not have the proper film holder for it and in fact, I never liked the Devere holder. I used an LPL which had its disadvantages on this machine, but less so than the really weird Devere holder. I have the lens mount but will probably keep the lenses.

Even if allowed in, you would be required to quarantine yourself for 14 days before you could pick it up.

Oops, sorry. Yes, the largest negative is 4x5.

Might be worth it.

Why, oh, why!?! A free DeVere 504, but it’s 8.170 kilometers from me!!! This is plain evil! Why couldn’t it be in São Paulo? I wouldn’t mind even driving to Rio (450 km) to pick one of these...

I tried to give 3 away a couple of years ago, two floor models and one table model. Unfortunately, one of the floor models went to the land fill. The others were adopted. L

This makes my heart hurt, literally.
Indeed, but at least the 2 4x5's and 2 8x10's were adopted. I took one of the 8x10's as a backup to mine. L

Lucky guy. A 4x5 would be more than enough for me, but I wouldn’t complain about an 8x10!

If you sell this enlarger, I would like to know a list of components.
I can ship from your home to my office through my delivery company.
How much is it?
I want to know the exact size and weight.
Ottawa can be shipped if it has not been closed due to the coronavirus situation.

Did you ever get rid of this? I'm in Chicago and could make the drive some weekend if you've still got it and want someone to take it!

Did anyone pick up this enlarger? I realize this is a year ago, but free!

So I do have to close the loop here and identify a few things. Yes there was still a free DeVere enlarger, and yes I did grab it off of Doc W. Thanks again!
  • never leave a stone unturned, there may be just something under there.
  • Free isn't really free. I had to get lens boards, master negative carrier and the timer cable, bulbs etc. Spent more on this enlarger than I did on any of my others

Free isn't really free.
I think you really mean that "'Free" doesn't mean that you won't end up spending $
Look like money well spent to me!
