Frank Thorpe works for NBC News and covers Congress and the US Capitol. Aside from his “day job” digital shots, he likes to shoot 4x5 large format film with his Speed Graphic, and I have followed his instagram feed for a while.

A couple weeks ago I reached out to Frank about shooting dry plates in the US Capitol — mostly because I thought it’d be cool and I think it’s been a century or so since anybody has. He enthusiastically agreed to the mini-project, and yesterday posted the first of his dry plate photos to instagram.

I thought you all would enjoy seeing his results, and if you’re on Instagram I’d encourage you to follow him!

I second the recommendation, his 4x5 work is excellent. It’s really cool to see this sort of thing happen now especially in this digital era.
