Frances Schultz, has passed away here in France. She had survived several cancers over the last few years, but despite her remarkable courage she succumbed to a tenacious lung cancer in the hospital in Chinon this afternoon.

She was a dear friend and I'm too saddened at the moment to write more, but will come back and add information later. Anyway, most of you reading this will know who she was and about her partnership with Roger Hicks, her husband and writing partner who, himself, left us just over a year ago. I'll try to post a portrait I took of her on one of my visits to her home in the village of Moncontour, in the center of France, last year.

I thought their lives well lived.

You're right; Roger knew how to stretch the scant income of a freelance writer enough to create a very interesting life for Frances and himself; for one thing, they toured all over Europe on motorcycle (not a Gold Wing, but that type .. with a comfortable big saddle and all. I've forgotten the make: maybe BMW). And Frances was the consummate good sport and seasoned road companion. She was patient, thoughtful .. and just great.

Very sad news. I learned a lot from reading both Roger's and Frances' articles and books. This is a loss for the photographic world and the rest of the world.

Very sorry to read this. Roger Hicks and Frances Schultz, both in their images and writing, were a significant influence on my early interest in photography. I particularly remember reading their book on medium and large format photography, with a then new appreciation of the medium and what it could do.

I’m very saddened to hear this.

She fought cancer so hard just before Roger passed. This time she had to do it alone. I’m glad her suffering is over.

Sadly, thanks for informing us of Ms. Schultz's passing. I'm a regular person on Amateur Photographer where I found
out via a link to here.

It's been almost a year since she left us (November 25, 2020) so I just wanted to upload another photo of dear Frances, to mark the sad occasion and 'let her know' she's not been forgotten.

I followed Roger and Francis Schultz for many years, including Roger when he posted on APUG.
