My frame counter only resets halfway to around frame 25 when reloading the camera.
Normally taking off the bottom plate resets it to -2.
Is there a quick solution for this or does this require repair?

Thanks

If swearing at it doesn't work, I suspect it needs to be looked at by a technician -- probably something in the way -- film chip? dirt? goblin?

No way of knowing. But, no -- no easy way to fix it yourself.

I'm not sure if it's possible on an MP, but try removing and re-inserting the take-up spool.

LATER EDIT: It seems the MP is like an M6 regarding the take-up. Maybe try gentle wiggling or pushing or pulling on the take-up.

DAG did a super fast turnaround on mine when this happened last year. Must have been a very easy fix with the correct tools in hand. Leica NJ quoted me 6-8 weeks, DAG turned it around the very same day.

I'll try Leica in Ginza, Tokyo.
They've helped me out with same day service for minor things before.
If that doesn't work then Kanto Camera it is.

That's quick for Leica NJ.
I'm half joking.

I always double what they say, plus add in an extra week or two for holidays, or the tech having a doctors appt, or needing an oil change, etc.

It must have only taken several minutes to fix.

The frame counter magically started working again the very moment I arrived at Kanto Camera to drop it off for repair.

Heh. Well, that's better than having it start working the moment you leave it at the shop and walk out the door.
