I've heard of this before. The gas is also called "Browns Gas" and I know of at least one other manufacturer who makes a metal cutting tool using the gas. And a company called Water4gas sells a book on how to convert your own car to run on a water /gas combo. Thanks for reminding me. This is one of the things I wanted to try this year and I had forgotten about it.

That all depends. There's nothing wrong with reducing pollution, but when that is coupled with unreasonable taxation and wholesale destruction of the countryside and coastline*, then I think we are simply swapping one kind of pollution for another.


*The British government, under pressure from 'greens' is planning a mass expansion of windfarms. On land this means thousands of miles of previously unspoiled countryside will be concreted over with turbine sites and the access roads necessary for service crews. They are also expanding those out at sea, so there will not be anywhere on our coast that is free of these useless monstrosities. It makes more sense just to build new nuclear power plants on existing sites.
Other proposals include the promotion of biofuels, again under pressure from 'greens', even though the demand for biofuels is now driving the destruction of virgin forest in favour of biofuel crops.

True - that's just another example of things not being thought through to the end. My favourite solution right now is covering every roof in solar panels... At least that would keep consumption of unspoilt area down. But I admit I don't know what the mass production of solar panels would do to the environment.

Decisions like this (at least in Germany) are usually made by politicians who don't know much about the topic and just try to catch the biggest wave that might carry them through the next elections. Those things should really be decided by experts who think long-term - certainly past the next election period. I don't see that happening, though.
