Found a QL17 Case..

Hey guys,

I went buy my local camera store that still sells darkroom supplies and used things. I asked the guy if by chance did he think he had a case for a Canon QL17 camera. He pulled open a drawer and amoung a bunch old misfit cases he pulled a Canon QL case. yahoooooo!!

One of the Canonets (the big one) has a film advance lever on the bottom (with an appropriate opening on the bottom of the black case). - David Lyga

You should be happy that you have a "real" camera store in your neck of the woods. I have one but it is getting rid of anything I might want to buy and going Gigetal-Digital.

I know.. right? Camera stores are kind of going the way of the DoDo birds. They have a fine collection vintage film gear and of course digital cameras. Some of the things are OK priced. The place is called "Camera and Darkroom". We have another place called "Kurt's Camera Corral". But the owner is a jack ass. I was looking for a Beselar 120 neg holder and he wanted full price for it. He wouldn't budge on lowering the price on a vintage piece of gear that collecting dust. I found the same thing on ebay days later for $12.00. This was a couple of years ago, I haven't been back sence.

What is especially remarkable is how few years have passed in order to bring this 'forgetfulness' about. I remember seemingly only yesterday, with the turning of the century, how Popular Photography and Shutterbug did their best to negate the fact that there ever was film at all! With amazing ruthlessness and marketing adroitness they adopted whole new staffs, new outlooks, and became 'different' magazines. That assault was highly successful, as the dollar never bows to anyone (and don't you forget it).

Popular Photography kept writing to me, begging me to renew my subscription for a pittance, but, to me, even that pittance was a king's ransom for that useless material in that new magazine. They got what they wanted and now have the nerve to have a page in each edition remembering how photography was '60 years ago'. I honestly do not blame the young ones for not knowing what film is. After all, it never existed. - David Lyga

Is it a QL17 or a QL17 GIII? If the GIII, is the case the soft or hard shell, and if the soft, is it ratty or in good shape? The soft GIII cases deteriorated horribly over time.

^ Nice! The hard cases were the only ones that have stood the test of time. I don't think I've ever seen a soft case that wasn't a deteriorated mess.

I worked managing photographic retail stores for about 23 years, and when I go in them today about the only item of equipment they sell that are familiar to me are tripods and even they are described as "digital tripods", I asked a young man in in a camera shop recently for a 5 roll pack of 120 Fuji Reala he asked if that was film and said he would check on the computer.

Im resurrecting this thread cause I use the lower part of a hard case from a Canonet QL /2.8 on my GIII QL /1.7.

I re-foamed the GIII and needed to remove the base plate to replace the light seal on the button to de-clutch the wind on sprocket shaft for rewind.

Noticed that one of the mini printed circuit boards (PCB) was so close to corner edge that if you drop the camera and it lands on that corner you will need a new PCB.

So the half case use, I employ for hand size, might just save a PCB... I removed the rivet holding the top part - you could fit (replace with) a pop fastener set/pair if you were fussy.
