Efke going under?

Just saw an email from Freestyle about Efke-seems as though they're stopping production of all their lines-film and paper!Let the stockpiling begin.

Was Lodima being coated in the Efke plant in the end? That discussion was a few years ago, and I forgot how it was resolved, and a search doesn't turn up much about where the paper is manufactured.

I hope not. I don't believe Michael has ever said where it is being coated.

See the APUG thread (there was a url link here which no longer exists)...

Read carefully the posts by Mirko at ADOX Fotoimpex.

All CHS films, Nuance and Vario Classic.

As for the films we plan to bring a replacement for the low speed films and a 100 ASA version.
The 100 ASA film will come first and be made available in the same selection of formats except 127.
We hope to be able to supply without an interruption here.

Kind regards,

Mirko

Mirko, which emulsion are you going to replace CHS 25? It's my favourite film, just love it.

Gone, there's a worldwide run in the films and there is tiny supply.. If you don't buy tonight, forget it..

I may have missed something in trying to skim trough these 32 pages, but will the ADOX paper products be continued? Will all future ADOX materials be made on the old Agfa research coating machine that ADOX has?

So MCC is still going to be available? Am I reading that correctly. I saw that before but wasn't sure if I read it right. Did Efke not coat MCC?

It will be available!!
The MCC and MCP are coated in Germany by InovisCoat.

MCC was an Agfa product so had no link to EFKE/Fotokemika.

The Adox name belonged to Dr C. Schleussner Fotowerke GmbH which was bought by Dupont, they later sold the plant and the rights to make the products under licence to EFKE/Fotokemika. The Adox brand name went out of use in the 1970's and was later resurrected by Mirko/Fotoimpex.

Ohhh. I thought that all of the ADOX products would be coated in one place. This is pretty good then...Could InovisCoat coat films as well?

Hello Patrick,

yes they can, BW and color. They even offer making color film as service on their website.
If you want your own color film ( "Ektagraphic Special" ) they could make it for you.
But you have to put at least 6 Mio. Euro on the table for such a project (at least that was the number I've been told by one of their partners last year).

Best regards,
Henning

ADOX Fotowerke GmbH says:

"is there any possibility that Adox buy the rights and keep the production of Efke IR films, or even develop a new recipe for this kind of emulsion? "

Denise,

Efke´s IR was the only real IR film left giving results by far superior to the two "near IR" options still out.
Remanufacturing it is possible for ADOX.
At this point it is not on our agenda though.
We need to solve the problem of coating on a small scale first.
At present we are preparing sample emulsions in our emulsion factory to be test coated on various mid sized coating machines which are located in Europe and looking foreward to cooperating with us.
This is scheduled to take place in November.
If this works out and if we are able to produce mid sized quantities at a working price (which means the resulting end user price is bearable) it would be possible to take a 400 speed emulsion and sensitize it with the IR820 sensitizer.
We might do this simillar to Ilford´s ULF runs by colecting orders in december, making the film in january and shipping it in march.
Specialty products like these are our target.
It´s fun to make them.

Mirko

I saw the ability on the website for them to make paper but I didn't know that also meant film.
