Formulary TF-5 vs TF-4

What's the difference?
I just ran out of fixer and have been using Formulary TF-5. Looking to buy some more, I saw TF-4 but really couldn't assertain the difference between the two.

Would someone please tell me the difference?
Also, I see that using TF-4 means that you don't need to use either a Stop Bath or Hypo Clear. Does that still give you negatives that will last?

TF-5 has less odors. PE has posted on this many times. He prefers TF-5 to TF-4.

Yes the negative will last with either TF-4 or TF-5.

Yes, the rinse (if not running water) will gradually become contaminated due to developer carryover. This is carryover turns the rinse into a potential developer which when carried directly into any neutral or alkaline fix can allow "bad things" to happen.

Does that go for TF2 also? I use TF2 and haven't seen any real reason to stop using it. I know I can't run as many prints per liter, but I like the fact I can mix my own with cheap sodium thiosulfate instead of amonium thiosulfate solution. Just me I guess......? John W

This holds for ANY fix used to excess or water rinse used to excess. Even acidic fixers feel the carryover, but much less strongly. Neutral and alkaline fixes feel the carryover much more quickly and bad things happen more quickly.

I always use running water with my TF2 so I guess I'm safe in that respect. Thanks PE. John W
