Very interesting article in today's Guardian (Feb 20) discussing the making of the amazing photograph of former Prince Andrew leaving the police station after his recent arrest. Reuters photojournalist Phil Noble explains how he captured the picture, now seen around the world and destined to receive a top award.

For those of us who don't read The Guardian, could you please give us some of the details? I'd love to know how Reuters takes photographs.

It’s interesting that the Guardian devoted so many words to describe the photographic process but, frankly, it’s nothing that thousands of other paparazzi haven’t been doing for a very long time. The picture, itself, really isn’t either that good or very newsworthy. Without further explanation there is no context. A very forgettable image that is simply being used to exploit his sad situation. Time will tell if the picture has any lasting impact or if there are any associated awards. Now, a picture of him in handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit standing before a magistrate might be worthy…
 
The article sounded like a story made to fit a picture It's just a pity that it wasn't film, he had used Rodinal and was asking for some advice on Photrio . Now that might turn out to be a real story with some substance 😃

The handcuffs and orange jumpsuit may have to wait until immediately after his appearance in front of the congressional committee😎. Unlike the Corleone family I feel the chances of his elder brother appearing in the public area at the hearing as the unwitting saviour is very remote

Weegee did all that kind of stuff for years 🤷‍♂️
 
The best I've seen of that photo was on Facebook marketplace this morning. Someone had photoshopped it onto a Royal Doulton commemorative plate (Limited Edition Accountability Series) and offered it for sale for $25.

That says to me: "deer caught in the headlights".
It makes the image, for me.
 
Best thing about it was it removed images of another head of state off the front page for a couple of days.
A least until this morning. sigh.

The redeye should have been eliminated as it is a failure of the camera's flash reflecting back the retina of a person's eye,s in this case, trying to make him look evil. Honest editors would not use a picture like this or edit out the redeye that every photo editing program has. It;s phoney and a biased picture.
 
That’s hilarious; almost ludicrous. It’s a happy snappy. Red eye happens. Means nothing except it’s not a very good picture.
 
In my opinion this is a much better picture. Not only is it film, it is so good people have called it is fake.
