Hi everyone,

With the insane price increases of Kodak in Japan the cost of shooting Tri-X is a bitter pill to swallow. Similarly, I know that many people lament the loss of Provia 400X, which is still available here in Japan (120 and 35mm size). Although I could buy Tri-X internationally, I'd like to offer a trade of Provia for Tri-X, if anyone is interested. Or, I suppose, anything film-related that is only available here in Japan. All the Provia I have is dated to 11/2016, which I assume is the going to be the latest it ever goes to. Similarly, I'd like some Tri-X that is as fresh as possible - I'm assuming most dates will be to 2017 and beyond, but I'm just guessing here.

I'm not trying to make money here, I'd just like to offer something to fellow Apuggers in exchange for something I'd like in return. So here are a few numbers (all $ are U.S. dollars and don't include tax):

Provia 400X (based on Yodobashi.com prices)
120 (5-pack) - 4120 yen, which is 824 yen per film, which is about $6.81
135 (5-pack) - 5280 yen, which is 1056 yen per film, which is about $8.73

Tri-X 400 (based on B&H Photo prices)
120 (5-pack) - $24.25, which is $4.85 per roll, same as single prices
135 (single) - $4.89 per roll

So, for example, an exchange could go something like this (note that the prices, based on a per-roll basis, are just a guideline as exchange rates fluctuate daily). Min/max are just suggestions, I'm open to any possible combination in between:

(min) 11 rolls of Tri-X (135) = $53.79 for 6 rolls of Provia 400X (135) = $52.38
(max) 40 rolls of Tri-X (135) = 195.60 for 22 rolls of Provia 400X (135) = $192.06

and/or

(min) 7 rolls of Tri-X (120) = $33.95 for 5 rolls of Provia 400X (120) = $34.05
(max) 40 rolls of Tri-X (120) = $194 for 28 rolls of Provia 400X (120) = $190.68

Shipping would be the responsibility of the sender, but I think ideally we would like something similarly fast (for example, I would likely ship using EMS from Japan). I'm also assuming we are going to ship film with the boxes, except for the possibility of a few rolls due to breaking a 5-pack.

Ideally I'd like to stay below the $200 range for the exchange. I'm open to multiple small exchanges as I know some people may only want 35mm and others 120. Personally I want a mix of both formats, but I would be happy to exchange 120 for a mix of 135/120 or vice versa.

NOTE: Although I've only listed prices based on a Japan-US exchange, I am of course willing and wanting to trade with anyone in the world (and adjust number of rolls exchanged based on the prices in your location). Similarly, in addition to Tri-X I'd be interested in getting my hands on some Rollei Infrared/400S and/or Ilford SFX as they are either difficult to find here in Japan or extremely short-dated (as is the case with SFX). Or...if you are holding onto some rolls of Kodak HIE that you don't plan to shoot, and have been frozen since purchased, I'd be more than willing to talk about that too.

Since we are so international here on APUG, to be fair to everyone (I hope), this will NOT be a first-come, first-served kind of trade. Just let me know what you would like to exchange (# of rolls of Tri-X in ____ format for # of rolls of Provia 400x in ____ format). I don't know how interested people will be in doing this - if it's only a few people, maybe I can exchange with everyone. If too many people are interested, or if everyone wants the max, I will draw the name(s) from a hat. So let's say I'll keep this open until noon March 22nd (Japan-time) and we'll go from there.

I'm interested in getting Provia 400x in 35mm, so I'd send Tri-X in 35mm in exchange. I live in the NYC area with access to B&H. 10x rolls of Provia 400x would be enough for me, so that works out to $87.30 worth of film which gets 17.85 or lets calls it 18 rolls of Tri-X in 35mm.

I'd be interested in some of the 120. I'd do the max and would order the Tri-X from B&H.

Hi all. Just wanted to let you know that I've agreed to a trade with another member who pm'd me. Would like to trade with everyone but I just don't have the cash to do so right now. But keep your eye on this space, I may offer up another trade in the near future.

Cheers.
