During this difficult time globally, what are we doing to document our immediate family? There is the chilling probability that we may loose someone we know before their time. This may even be in our household. I will be making every effort to photograph my loved ones in relaxed portraits and try my best to capture their personality in a light hearted way. What are other folks doing?

I haven't changed my lifestyle except that I can't have breakfast with my amigo's at our favorite greasy spoon whilst this BS is happening. Karen and I take turns cooking instead of eating out. We still get out for our daily walks and visit the local parks to hike and hunt mushrooms and fish, occasionally take a photo. Actually we've been busy packing up the house in preparation for the move. We were supposed to go to closing on the new house on April 2, but the closing has been put off until May 4 because of this mess.

I live one state over from my family, so I've not been able to visit them. They are in Louisiana, I'm in Texas, and the interstates are shut down at the state line. I could go visit them, but upon my return I'd have to quarantine for two weeks, or face criminal penalties... and since I work in law enforcement, it's probably not a good idea. But then, that's the way my career has always been. In times of tragedy or "acts of God", I'm always at work and my family is always somewhere else. I had to dispatch a high water vehicle to rescue my own husband during Harvey.

I was swept away from NJ to Florida by son-in-law just in the nick of time before NJ&NYers prevented from entering state. Not allowed to get out of car when shopping. Neighborhood is somewhat secluded and spacious so I can walk around with my dog. Brought along my Fuji GF670 , Makina67 and Contax IIa and have access to daughter’s M3.. So far, a few pics of grandson and father in pool. I prefer candid portraits.
Suburbs, as my friend Louie said, are really hard to photograph. But I’ll give it a try. Nothing but time.

That's good. Be safe and well, but meanwhile, lets use the enforced lockdown to create some photographic memories.
It is funny, but I do not feel that way. But then photographic memories and documentation has not been my main focal point of my photography over the past decades. While I have thought of interesting projects for the duration, in the end I'll let those who wish to document, document (but there is still one possibility that may happen with the 8x10).

Immediate family: closest (son) is 300 miles, I have three siblings 800 miles away (in opposite directions) and another son in lockdown in Tokyo. I am here all by myself, tho a friend and his dog came by last night and we sat around a fire in the backyard and shot the shit for an hour or so.

The topic is photographic documentation for posterity. If it’s not about that, or if it’s about not doing that, then it’s off topic.

I'm doing nothing. One son lives in the SF Bay area (~100+ miles away), the other lives in Salt Lake City (~850 miles away) and my parents live down South (~400 miles away).

Yesterday, I took a short walk and had a look around. Got some take out pizza on the way home. All things considered, life is pretty good.

I’m planing on printing my lifetime’s work. What a satisfying and yet humongous PITA homework. I give myself 5-6 months of intensive work. Already 3 months in.

if it’s not too personal... what’s the dog’s take on things? My dog acts like he’s in heaven... we’re all home to cater to his every whim and need.

in terms of photography, I’m taking more of family because they are here and willing subjects. As I walk through the neighborhood I’m finding it very photographically boring. But they aren’t.

Dog seems to be doing fine, as is my friend -- all considering the circumstances. He (my friend, not the dog, who is also a friend) is a home repair guy who is finally finishing the work needed on his own home (much to his wife's delight). He is not taking jobs right now to avoid the needed trips to hardware stores, etc (he is taking care of his 90+ yr old mom). So yeah...dog is like, situation normal, except he misses the treats I use to sneak him during our twice-weekly get-togethers of our social/drinking club...which hasn't met in a long while since we have earned the name "The Mad River Old Crows".

Four or so of us Old Crows (3 or more is a murder) did get together last Saturday and cooked 20 pizzas in an outdoor wood-fired oven for the community. Being tall and the oven being tall (built into the back of a horse trailer), I do the actually cooking -- fun actually, and since there was a light drizzle occasionally, I was warm and dry in front of the oven!

Oh, and while the two were by the fire last night a small mystery was solved for him. He was thinking it quite odd that at about the same time every evening the dogs around his neighborhood start barking. At 8pm around the fire, the whole town started its nightly howl, setting off all the dogs, too. He did not know of it, and from inside his house, he never heard the human howls. It's nuts and I like it.

You are lucky. We can't even go to a takeout. All closed for the duration as are other non essential stores restaurants pubs and so on. We are allowed out on essential journeys for food or meds or to work if you happen to be a key worker. That's it apart from a one hour walk run or cycle starting and ending at home.

Except if you need to by some flour -- everyone is baking...and I do not know if the mills are running up to speed.

I do bake, I have a 25lb sack of flour in the back room, and probably still have 10lbs in the kitchen cupboard, yeast is a bit sketchy up here. That's enough to last me through the year.

Ah...I have heard about a shortage of yeast.

Tis the time for sourdough starters to rise in our hour of great kneed!

But it would be nice to have the boys around -- I definitely would extend the semi-documentry, sort of portraits, the light on the landscape occupied by my boys, images that started when they were old enough to be still long enough.

I loaded in a larder of gin various types of gin. I am doing extensive research on them include several blue gins made with phenolphthalein. Those gins turn pink when tonic water is added to it [Empress Gin, Ink Gin, Butterfly Gin et al]. I am testing the gins in gin and tonic, straight with a few drops of water and dry martinis.

An...our fair town of 1350 souls does sport a distillery that makes wonderful gin...I have two bottles at present...their regular gin and their rye whiskey barrel aged gin. Interesting discussing with the distiller about how they developed their receipe and how flavors can disappear, combine and change as the gin is distilled again after the basket of herbs has been soaking in it. I am not experimenting much -- just studying how the flavors slowly change as one starts with some gin (92 proof) and a small ice cube.

My lifetime photos, including Kodachromes and LF are 99% secure online. A default reality, takes no effort (not even intentional) accessable from everywhere and easily reprinted by anybody I authorize.

All family/friend photos are automatically filed that way.

Why would anybody use this particular virus suddenly to want to photograph people they've not cared much about previously? Guilt?

Could be guilt... or it could be that a crisis brings what’s really important to the forefront... or it could be just a way to make use of spare time that didn’t exist previously.

OK...but I can't buy that. #1 crisis brings more BS than "what's really important." The instant we're living right now is what's really important. #2 I don't like to think I have "spare time." Guess that's the Buddha in me.
