Hi APUGers,

I tried searching around but theres no clear result.
Is the greyish negatives normal for formapan 400?
I've shot TriX a lot and although it has a pink cast, it washes away.
Seems to not be the case for Fomapan (sorry first time Fomapan user).
Is this normal?

What do you mean by grey? If the negatives are transparent in the unexposed areas, but the film base + fog is simply neutral in color, then there is no problem.

If there is any opacity/cloudiness then you have insufficiently fixed your negatives. Fix again immediately in fresh fixer for the recommended time.

Best,

Doremus

Ive got some foma Holga 400 negs that to my eye look a lot less contrasty / more grey compared to any of my other black and white stuff. So yes Id say it is normal when compared to like delta, trix, tmax, hp5 all those others

Yes. Normal. The only completely clear film that I've tried and is also widely available is Fuji Neopan Acros. There are probably others.
All the foma 135 format films have a slight base fog. Just get to printing and you'll realize it's no problem at all.

Surveillance film is usually on an untinted (clear) base. Most other films have an antihalation dye in either the emulsion or the base.
