I've just processed my first 2 120 rolls of Foma's 200 ISO film in Pyrocat but the film base is quite a noticeable blue, is this normal ?

Never seen anything similar before with conventional film, its more like the base of Xray film.

Hi Ian

The data sheet for Fomapan 200 says that the base color is bluish http://www.foma.cz/Upload/foma/prilohy/F_pan_200_en.pdf. I have just developed 2 rolls of Fomapan 100 in R09, the Fomapan 100 is also quite blue, more than just bluish  So it is normal.

Tom

I was very suprised too, wenn I developed the first Fomapan. Had expected something like a light blue not sky-blue!

Tom

Perhaps it is just the roll film version of Fomapan 200 that is blue? I shoot a lot of the cut-film in 5x7, which I process in HC-110d, and it is very neutral base, but it does give off quite a bit of anti-haliation dye in the presoak water.

Yeah, that's the rollfilm base.

I bought some Arista.EDU Ultra 400, which is Foma film, and I was very surprised too at the blue base. I found that it prints very well, though. But the curl of the base is a curse and a PITA to deal with, which is a shame since I really like how it prints.

35mm and 4x5 Fomapan 200 in Pyrocat HD isn't very blue when I process it. Is your fixer okay?

Kevin

Only the 120 is blue. 35mm and sheet film have a different film base.

All Rollei films, except the Retro films (these are on tri-acetate, APX emulsions), are on PET clear base with a nice non-curling layer.
Fomapan 200 120 roll film is on polyester base and blue. But all details are already mentioned and available in the Fomapan creative 200 data sheet.

Best regards,

Robert
