I know that Foam has changed from a blue to a clear base for coating their Fomapan 120 films sometime in 2012. I just got a test roll of the 100 and 200 speed film to try out. They were both with the clear base. Now it is time to buy some more. Does anyone know the Lot numbers / expiration dates of the first batched of this film to be coated on the clear base for the 100, 200 or 400 speed films? I do not see anything on the box to indicate that it is on a clear base now?

Thanks; From that link I go this.

Fotohuis (Robert) Pro User says:

FP200 120 roll film Batchnr. 010656 4 expiration date 1/2015 has clear Polyester layer and smooth backing paper. Films ok.

FP200 Batchnr. 010156 3 exp. date 2/2015 has light blue polyester layer and smooth backing paper. Films ok.

So the way I read it is the film with the LONGEST EXP date is BLUE and the "OLDER" stuff is CLEAR.
Maybe they think their new film will age faster / go bad quicker?
Looks like stuff with a date of 2014 or earlier will be blue. At least that is my guess.

Sorry Brian, I have no other info. I only use 35mm and my latest Fomapan 200 is batch 010915 to expire on 10/2015. I have yet to use it.

Can you show us the source? I can't see any news regarding this on Foma's web site.

I paste the mail I recieved from Slavomir

Hello

Foma wont produce sheet films both in 200 and 400ASA. They chose to produce only 200ASA. I like personally 200ASA more than 400ASA.

Best Regards

OK. Thank you!

That explains why Freestyle Photo is selling their Arista.EDU 400 sheet film at a discount now.

Luckily it only pertains to sheet film. The Foma web site states that Foma 400 is manufactured in 35mm and 120 format still, but the only notion of sheet film is the product data sheet.

Glad we got that cleared up.

It appears that all the Arista.edu film are discounted ("instant rebate"); all speeds, 35mm, 120, and sheet

Pure speculation on my part, but I wonder if it's related to their new "Silver Collection" film. Perhaps they anticipate reduced future demand for the arista.edu line and want to reduce inventory. Again, just speculation.
