You may remember that last year I shot a couple of rolls of the Foma Cine Ortho 400 8mm movie film.

I've now tested the Fomapan 100 B&W negative 8mm cine film on my recent trip to Japan. And I found it most excellent.

Please note the film was processed by me, by hand in an old Lomo tank in my bathroom and scanned on one of the cheap £250 domestic scanners, inverted in an old version of Vegas software. The film did jam a couple of times, hence some jitter and bright frames. I think that is actually down to worn out AA batteries in the camera, I should have replaced them. Shots are in and around Kyoto and Tokyo from earlier this month. The last shots were made just six days ago

For me the video defaults to the silly resolution of 144p so you might need to select a higher resolution. It's uploaded in 1080. And if you want to get noticed in a good way in Japan....shoot 8mm film on a 60+ year old cine camera. I even elicited interest from the monks at Kiyamizu-Dera temple. Also the young crowds in Shinjuku.

Great destination, I envy you

One of my many projects that I started but put on hold is to make my own R8/S8 scanner. For this purpose, I bought an old, damaged projector without a lens and cables, but with a working drive and gate. Maybe I should rather say that I only paid for the shipping. I already have a suitable stepper motor, controllers, etc. for this purpose, but... I had to prioritize the tasks a bit
Maybe in time I will have something to brag about, and I also have a pretty big desire for a "walk" to the east

Thanks for sharing.
What camera did you use?
I am going to Japan next month and will bring a Bolex B8 VS w. a 5.5mm and 12.5mm. Compact but heavy.
I will also use Foma 100 negative stock.

I used a Sakyo 8CM which has a 8.5-30mm lens. I would like something wider but I was carrying several cameras around with me pretty much everywhere I went so weight and size was a factor. The only issue was the film jammed a handful of times, which I think was down to the batteries needing replacing in the camera. It's never happened before with any other film in that camera including Fomapan R 100 and Foma Cine Ortho 400 from the same manufacturer.

Yeah, 12-13mm was considered "normal" on these Standard 8 camera but it is more equivalent to a short tele.
8.5 is closer to "normal". I was very happy when I found a 5.5mm for my camera.
