Fomalux Silver Chloride contact paper.

Anybody ever try this stuff? I wrote them about a fiber version, and they kindly responded:

We regret we do not produce the contact paper on fiber base. We have registered a small demand for this paper.
Just try to specify your annual consumption, optionally estimate minimal consumption of AZO paper in recent past

We will check our production possibilities in this issue.

Keep you informed that this time is even the Fomalux on RC an unstandard product which can be kept in production because of
bulk supplies to Mexico. In the United States is distributed by Freestyle.

I was not impressed...dissapointed....perhaps in fibre? It was not an azo that's for sure....I think M&P are very close.....so, let's hope they come through soon...

So, did you try this paper yet? If so, what do you think of it?

I got a pack from Freestyle and tried it this weekend. This was my first attempt at contact printing 8x10, and since I am not aware of any other contact paper, I thought I would give this a shot. One of the 8x10 contacts is (there was a url link here which no longer exists).

Since I do not have printing experience, I cannot make any critical analysis of this paper. But looking at the prints, I do not think I like the results much.

Curious to hear other opinions from those who have used it...

The scan of your contact print looks fine. But...what we can't see in the scan may be what you don't like.

Oh, I can't tell anything wrong from the scan.. but I wouldn't expect too many nuances to show up in a scan of a print displayed on a monitor.

That's interesting that there are bulk supplies in Mexico. A while back I think someone discovered that there was an RC version of Azo produced in Brazil for the Mexican market, but it wasn't available in the US, and it was mainly a wholesale item. So is there a brisk business for contact printing in Mexico? Street photographers shooting postcard format? Lots of people with old rollfilm cameras that they get contact-printed snapshots from? Whole-plate home portraitists in every village?

This same thing has been rolling around in my melon as well. I had concluded, for lack of a better explanation, that it was probably government copy work, or educational.

It would be so cool if it had to do with mariachi bands, or St Edward, or Tina babe.

Besides your old/remaining stash of Azo, what else do you folks contact print on - silver chloride, in FB?

Aside from stashed Azo and Haloid Industro, I contact print on Efke Emaks and handcoated albumen.

Slavich paper looks promising, but I haven't used it myself.

I agree with David, sounds like the Mexican RC Azo. What happened? Kodak abandon a couple master rolls there?

Azo, Kentona and Slavich. Slavich is a very nice paper but does not have the shadow separation as Azo. Grade 2 fits nicely in between the Canadian 2 and 3

How is the tone separation in the Fomalux? Is this something one might want to print solely contact sheets on over enlarging paper?

I just ordered some Fomalux from Freestyle. I think it's worth a try, and if I never use it for anything else but proofing negatives, no problem.
