Fomadon LQR & LQN Development Question

Greetings all,

I have a question when it comes to the usage of Fomadon LQR & LQN developers. In the technical data sheet, a dilution of 1+10 or 1+14 is recommended, but then subsequently it is claimed that up to 12 films can be developed with a 250ml bottle regardless of size (35mm or 120). Doing the calculations however, at a dilution of 1+10 and for a required final volume of 500ml for the development of a single 120 roll film, if these developers were to be used one shot at this dilution one would barely get 5 rolls developed, let alone 12. So how do you go about using them ? Do you indeed use them one-shot but at smaller dilutions (to get the 12 rolls for the 500ml at a one-shot case, one would have to use only 20ml per dev, or 1+24) or do you use the required dilution but reuse each produced working solution twice or something ? Any information or advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any response.

I haven't used Fomadon LQN or LQR but from looking at their PDF I think they mean that if you mix the concentrate at 1+10 you end up with 2.5L and then that amount of developer liquid, if used like a stock solution, would develop 12 films.

My reason for this thinking is if you look at their Fomadon Excel,(Xtol equivelent) there is no one shot details given, same with Fomadon P ( D76 equivelent).

Hm interesting theory, and in fact I though of this and tried to determine whether these developers are supposed to be used one shot or mixed into a stock solution, but so little information exists, and the data sheet is so vague, I guess only experimentation will result in a definite answer.

They mean 12 films at 1 + 14, one shot where it takes 300mm of solution per film (which covers one 135 size film in my Paterson tank). Mixed 1 + 14 that would be 250 ml + 3500 ml [250 X 14 = 3500] = 3750 ml / 300 ml per film = 12,5 films.
I preferred it at 1+10 though - as I recall I did not get good results at 1+14. I should check that. I am using it with Fomapan 400.

I think they don't recommend 1+14 for Foma 400, it is recommended 1+10.

I should say that I have used LQN, not LQR which is a high contrast developer.

Tends to push highlights more than D-76 stock, but if you pay attention to EI the film seems to handle it well enough. I had to learn to change EI according conditions with this film. Base is ISO 200, but it doesn't handle bright conditions well at 200.

I should say that I have used LQN, not LQR which is a high contrast developer.

Tends to push highlights more than D-76 stock, but if you pay attention to EI the film seems to handle it well enough. I had to learn to change EI according conditions with this film. Base is ISO 200, but it doesn't handle bright conditions well at 200.
