I want to get a case for my Mamiya 6 but will not pay ridiculous amounts for one. Maybe there are other MF folder cases, like the Iskra or isolette that might fit it and be cheaper? Anyone have one of each that can test that, or measure a few?

My camera is 5 5/8" x 3 7/8" x 1 7/8"

When I used to have an Ma7, I carried it in a Domke F-5XB which are $62 news these day. Had room for the camera with 80mm and the 50mm next to it. Ma6 would even leave you a bit of extra room.

Thanks for the suggestion. My tops is about 20 bucks, or I'll go without. I want a leather case where you can remove the top so its ready to shoot. I bet most of the 6x6 folder cases will work but confirmation would be nice

The body of the Mamiya-6 folder is thicker than all (most) of the other folders because it needs room for the film plane focusing. I'm doubtful that you will find cases from other folders will fit it.

If you give me the measurements in mm I can check Iskra cases

143 x 98 x 48mm

It just occurred to me that size might not be the only limiting factor, but the how and where the camera connects to the leather case might be the real problem. I presume most mount using the tripod mount, and my 6 has the mount on the far right corner instead of the middle.

Iskra II, Ansco Super Speedex (Agfa Super Isolette), and a version of the Mamiya 6

The Ansco and Agfa are the same camera, and the Iskra is a copy, but the Iskra uses a 3/8 tripos thread, while the Ansco uses a 1/4, so while cases fit each other, they don't mount properly - but that is something you can modify.

The Mamiya is thicker due to the film plane focusing, and the tripod mount is also off center.

However, the the Ansco & Iskra cases are flexible enough that the Mamiya 6 (or this version anyways) will fit into the cases.

You would still have to move the tripod bolt to the side, but that is something that "can" be done...

This.
Plus compatibility/incompatibility with any bumps and protrusions (including the lens) on the camera.
And don't forget the location of the winding mechanism, and any frame counter window, any on-body flash synch connection, etc., etc.
I would guess that unless you find two different cameras that are actually re-badged versions of the other, each camera will only fit in a case that was custom designed for it.
I use very small camera bags instead.

There really aren't any bumps or protrusions on my 6. I would rarely if ever use a tripod with my 6 so I could probably remove the knob from the case completely and just rig some velcro or other cheepncheesy system to secure the camera in the case. The tripod mount on the 6 is pretty much flush so that won't interfere.

Thanks itsdoable, you said it was notdoable but you have proved itsdoable!

Ok, so I have one Iskra case if you need.

Well thank you for that offer, I expect shipping costs alone will be prohibitive, as I am extremely cheap and you are extremely far. But shoot me a message on our PM thread and maybe I'll keep it in mind as a backup.

I wonder if a Moskva 5 would work. There's a couple of them available cheap, although they were 6x9 so maybe too much slop
