After shooting only 4x5 for more than a year, I want to shoot some 8x10 this weekend. There are still 50+ sheets left in a box of Photo Warehouse Ultra fine 125 a.k.a. FP4+ that I would like to use. Because it's been maybe 2 years since the film was purchased I thought it would be a good idea to test it. Well I cut 2 sheets in half, one from the top of the stack and one from the bottom. One half went strait into the fix the other into the developer. The developed half definitely show some density. It wasn't dry when I left the darkroom so I didn't have a chance to measure the difference but it looks like it could be around Zone 1. Tomorrow I'll measure it. I'd really like to make this work, 50+ sheets is a lot to throw out. Plus there is limited choice in 8x10 film at short notice in town. My question is how should I rate this film and develop it? I normally rate this film at 80 to 100 depending on the lighting conditions. If it was rated at 50 with some reduced development could I expect some shadow detail above the fog without blocking up the highlights? Pyrocat HD is the developer I've used in the past, but have access to Rodinal, HC110, D23, as well as the chems' to make up most other developers. Any help would greatly appreciated.
