I started using my new Focomat V35 and have a problem with autofocus.

I have LPL easel and Ganz speed easel. Their heights are different from each other (Ganz is higher). With LPL easel the autofocus works perfectly but with Ganz not so much.

I thought this is because of the height of easel, and I tried adjust the height of column by turning the crank on the top of it. I simply raised the column by the height difference of the easel, but it didn't work. After spent 1/2 hour or so with trial-and-error method, I made no success.

What possibly did I do wrong?
Is there any easier / systematic way to adjust this?

TIA

Did you measure the height of the easel correctly i.e.from top of the enlarger's baseboard to the top of the easel?

If you shim the speed easel so that the paper heigth is the same as the other easel the problem will disappear.

Thanks for the replies.

I tried again. I found it is much more sensitive than I thought - just a portion of a crank turn made difference. And I found another reason - my speed easel was not flat but slightly bent.

Finally, I found shimmin the easel to make the same height is much better way than adjusting column height each time I change the easels.

Thanks a lot.
